Jógvan Isaksen
Jógvan Isaksen (born 25 August 1950 in Tórshavn) is a Faroese writer and literary historian. He is best known for his crime novels and for his book about Faroese literature (1993, in Danish). He is leader of the Faroese publication house which has its address in the Faroe Islands, though its committee is located in Copenhagen. It publishes Faroese books and is the oldest Faroese publishing house, having been founded in 1910. Biography Jógvan Isaksen is the son of Magnhild Isaksen née Olsen and Reimar Isaksen, who both come from the village of Gøta. After finishing high school in 1970 he moved to Denmark in order to study Nordic Philology at Aarhus University. He finished his MA in Scandinavian Literature Science in 1982. Jacob Haugaard
Daniel Jacob Haugaard (born 12 May 1952) is a Danish-Faroese comedian, actor, musician, composer, writer, TV host and former representative in the Danish Parliament. Activities Jacob Haugaard has been a well-known performer in Denmark for many years, mixing comedy, singing and instrumental music in his own unique style. He is usually dressed in an ever-changing range of gaudy suits, and often plays a home-made guitar for which he is well known. He has recorded many music records and CDs since 1977. Haugaard has also produced radio, films and TV, mostly comedy and sketches and has a long history of close cooperation with comedian and entertainer Finn Nørbygaard, since 1984. Kristian Osvald Viderø
Kristian Osvald Viderø (27 May 1906, in Skálavík – 8 April 1991, in Copenhagen) was a Faroese clergyman, poet and Bible translator. In 1985 he won the Faroese Literature Prize for his works. Biography After theological studies in Denmark, Viderø oversaw the completion of a translation of the Old Testament into the Faroese language, which Jákup Dahl Jákup Dahl (English and German ''Jacob Dahl'') (5 June 1878 – 5 June 1944) was a Faroese Provost and Bible translator. Rói Patursson
Rói Reynagarð Patursson (born 21 September 1947) is a Faroese writer and philosopher. He was also the director of the Folk High School of the Faroes. He was born in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. After attending the St. Frans School in Tórshavn and secondary school, Patursson went abroad from 1964 to 1965, afterwards taking various jobs in Tórshavn and Copenhagen. In 1968 he traveled across Europe, and afterwards he attended a Gymnasium until 1969. From 1970 to 1985 he lived in Copenhagen, and in 1973 he married. He and his wife had a daughter in 1974, and a second daughter in 1981. In 1976 he began the study of philosophy at the University of Copenhagen, and received a Masters in 1985. Jóanes Nielsen
Jóanes Nielsen (born April 5, 1953 in Tórshavn) is a Faroese author and poet of the 1980s generation. Nielsen has written short stories, plays and novels. He has published seven collections of poetry, and was nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize for the fourth time with his latest collection of poems, entitled ''Brúgvar av svongum orðum'' (Bridges of Hungry Words). One of his main influences is the writer William Heinesen, who features in some of his poems. As a writer Nielsen is mainly associated with a political and often existential message. He has been nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize five times: 1988, 1994, 1999, 2004 and 2012. Marjun Syderbø Kjelnæs
Marjun Syderbø Kjelnæs (born 1974) is a Faroese poet, playwright and novelist. She is the author of fourteen works in different genres. Among these are her three collections of poems: "Karmageitin," (2022) ''Rót Tripp'' (2012) and ''Opna'' (2016). Her two stage plays "Gentukamarið" (2022) and "Tóm Rúm" (2014) both premiered on the Faroese national scene. In 2016 the play "Tóm rúm" was chosen to be a part of the Nordic Drama Train. Her novel ''Skriva í sandin'' is a contemporary book for young adults, taking place in Kjelnæs's hometown of Tórshavn. Sissal Kampmann
Sissal Kampmann (born 1974) is a Faroese poet. She grew up in Vestmanna in the Faroe Islands. After finishing the Faroese University-preparatory school (in Faroese called Studentaskúli, in Danish: Gymnasium) in Tórshavn, she moved to Denmark to study Nordic literature at the University of Copenhagen. Hanus Kamban
Hanus Kamban (born 25 June 1942 in Saltangará, Faroe Islands) is a Faroese short story writer, essayist, biographer and poet. He was born Hanus Andreassen, but changed his last name to Kamban in 2000. Kamban grew up on the small island of Skúvoy and moved to Tórshavn in 1956. He writes about the quite sudden modernisation of the Faroese society post World War II. He published his first short story anthology in 1980, and has translated William Shakespeare, Kafka, Graham Greene and other great writers and poets from other countries to Faroese. From 1994 to 1997 he published a three-volume biography of one of the most important Faroese poets, Janus Djurhuus. It was translated into Danish and published in two volumes in 2001. Oddvør Johansen
Oddvør Johansen (born 30 October 1941 in Tórshavn) is a Faroese writer and organ player in Tórshavn Cathedral. She writes novels, short stories and children's books. She has twice received the Faroese Literature Prize, in 1983 and 2002. In 1988 she was awarded with Tórshavn City Council's Children's Book Prize ( Barnabókavirðisløn Tórshavnar Býráðs).
