Czech Republic
The Czech Republic, or simply Czechia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Historically known as Bohemia, it is bordered by Austria to the south, Germany to the west, Poland to the northeast, and Slovakia to the southeast. The Czech Republic has a hilly landscape that covers an area of with a mostly temperate continental and oceanic climate. The capital and largest city is Prague; other major cities and urban areas include Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň and Liberec. The Duchy of Bohemia was founded in the late 9th century under Great Moravia. It was formally recognized as an Imperial State of the Holy Roman Empire in 1002 and became a kingdom in 1198. Following the Battle of Mohács in 1526, the whole Crown of Bohemia was gradually integrated into the Habsburg monarchy. The Protestant Bohemian Revolt led to the Thirty Years' War. Chaozz
Chaozz is a Czech hip hop group active from 1995 to 2002, during which time they released four studio albums. They reformed in 2017 and have since published one single. Career Chaozz was formed in 1995 by musicians Bass, MC Deph, Rusty, Fugaz, and DJ Smog. Bass and Rusty had previously been members of another hip hop group, UNIT, established in 1993, and MC Deph had released a solo record before working with Fugaz on a project called Flavamatic. UNIT disbanded in 1994, with Bass and Rusty joining DJ Smog to form the group Chaozz. Shortly afterward, the two groups merged under the name Chaozz. The group began to achieve success after meeting Ivo Pospíšil, a record store owner who had contacts at PolyGram. In 1996, they released their first album, '' ...a nastal chaos''. DVA (band)
DVA is a Czech alternative rock music duo consisting of the siblings Bára Kratochvílová and Jan Kratochvíl. DVA have described their style as "folk music of nonexistent nations", which consists of a mix of tango, cabaret, circus, pop, beatboxing, freak folk, and acoustic electro, among a variety of other eclectic styles. The lyrics of their songs are made up of nonsensical words that mix German, Hungarian, and Swedish, among others. History DVA (which means "two" in Czech) was formed in 2006 by Bára Kratochvílová and Jan Kratochvíl, who were both previously associated with Divadlo DNO in Hradec Králové. They simultaneously launched their own home-based record label, Label Home Table. Their debut album, titled ''Fonók'', was released in 2008. Dunaj (band)
Dunaj are a Czech alternative/art rock band from Brno active initially between 1986 and 1998 and reformed in 2018. The band has included prominent Czech musicians Iva Bittová and Pavel Fajt and influenced many Czech artists, with AllMusic critic François Couture calling their 1991 sophomore album, ''Rosol'', "the blueprint for the future music of ..most of the Czech avant rock scene". The band's name translates in English to "Danube", referring to the river of this name. Druhá Tráva
Druhá Tráva is a Czech bluegrass band originally formed in Czechoslovakia in 1991 by Robert Křesťan and Luboš Malina. As of 2021, they have released thirteen studio albums, four live albums, two compilations, as well as a number of side projects. They have been described as evolving from underground musicians who subverted Communism to international artists who "upend convention". Doctor Victor
Doctor Victor is a Czech rock trio formed in Prague in 2012. The band consists of Victor on vocals and lead guitar, Al on bass, and Tom on drums. Doctor Victor's music is based primarily on the legacy of traditional rock from the late 1960s and early 1970s, with elements of blues music. In 2016, they released their debut album, ''1st Prescription''. The band's 2018 single "StandUP" was included in the Czech selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. Divokej Bill
Divokej Bill is a Czech folk rock band formed in 1998 in Úvaly, near Prague. The band takes its name from Wild Bill Hickok, and blend country music influences with punk rock, folk, and alternative rock sounds. Diamond Cats
Diamond Cats were a Czech girl group founded in 2009 when its four members left another girl group, Pink Angels (later called 5angels). Diamond Cats consisted of Nikol Šneiderová, Kristýna Pecková, Hana Hladíková, and Kristýna Šlingrová, all aged 9–11 at the time of the group's inception. In 2010, they released the album ''Showbyznys'', whose title song went on to become their best-known hit. DG 307
DG 307 was a Czech underground rock band founded in 1973 in Prague by Milan Hlavsa and Pavel Zajíček. The group has been inactive since 2016. Overview Bass guitarist Milan Hlavsa and poet Pavel Zajíček launched DG 307 in 1973, taking the name from a psychiatric diagnosis that allowed young men to obtain a blue booklet and thus avoid compulsory military service. Together with the Plastic People of the Universe, a band Hlavsa had also been a member of, DG 307, among other underground ensembles, was a target of persecution by the communist regime. The repression climaxed in 1976, when Zajíček was arrested and imprisoned for a year, allegedly for disorderly conduct. After his release, only two DG 307 concerts took place, in 1979. In 1980, Zajíček emigrated and the group went on indefinite hiatus. The Desperate Mind
The Desperate Mind is a punk rock band from the Czech Republic. They were formed in 2011 by singer and rhythm guitarist Martin J. Polák, lead guitarist Tomáš Ondra, bassist Dominik Zavadil, and drummer Dominik Kubík. In 2014, Winc Janeček replaced Dominik Kubík, and in 2015 David Havelka replaced Dominik Zavadil. In 2018, Filip Buršík replaced Tomáš Ondra, forging the current lineup. Without being signed to any label, the band gained a significant following with their 2015 debut album, ''Amassed Sickness'', and the following grew bigger with their 2016 release, an EP called ''False Flag''. Clou was a Czech rock band from Prague formed in 2001, who sang in English. They released their debut EP, ''First'', in 2004, and a studio album titled ''Postcards'' in 2005. They went on to release three more albums before breaking up in 2014. Clarinet Factory is a Czech clarinet quartet formed in Prague in 1994. The group plays classical music, jazz, crossover, ethnic, minimalist, electronic, and soundtrack music. The quartet is composed of Jindřich Pavliš, Luděk Boura, Vojtěch Nýdl, and Petr "Pepino" Valášek.
