List Of Auckland Ferries
This is a list of ferries that operate in Auckland as part of the city's public transport network. Ferries are primarily operated by Fullers360, SeaLink, Belaire, and Explore. Auckland Transport also owns several ferries, but these vessels are controlled by Fullers360 until 2028. Auckland Transport In 2022, Auckland Transport purchased four diesel ferries that were in dire need of repair from Fullers, and is upgrading them to reduce their emissions. There are plans to commission five new hybrid-electric ferries, with the first two expected to arrive in 2024. Fullers Group Limited, trading as Fullers360, is a ferry and tourism company in Auckland, New Zealand. It operates in the Hauraki Gulf and Waitemata Harbour. Fullers Group is the latest in a long line of almost continuous harbour and gulf ferry operations based in Auckland since the 1870s. History George Hudson, and his son, Douglas, conceived an idea for an improved ferry operator to replace the neglected Auckland ferry services during a sailing trip on Waitemata Harbour in 1981. SeaLink New Zealand, formerly part of SeaLink Travel Group, operates a vehicle, passenger and freight ferry service on the Hauraki Gulf in Auckland. History SeaLink NZ started as a ferry company owned by the Subritzky family in Auckland in 1960. During this time it went by various trading names including Subritzky Shipping, Subritzky Shipping Line, and Subritzky on the Hauraki Gulf. Explore Group Limited is a ferry and tourism company located in New Zealand and Australia. The company operates in the Bay of Islands, Whitsunday Islands, Hauraki Gulf and Waitematā Harbour. Explore operates sailing experiences on former Americas Cup Yachts, excursions and public transport ferry services for Auckland Transport. Auckland Transport (AT) is the council-controlled organisation (CCO) of Auckland Council responsible for transport projects and services. The Auckland Ferry Terminal, also called the Downtown Ferry Terminal, is the hub of the Auckland ferry network, which connects the Auckland CBD with suburbs in North Shore, West Auckland, and South Auckland, and islands in the Hauraki Gulf. The terminal is on the Auckland waterfront, at the north end of Queen Street, across Quay Street from the Britomart Transport Centre, which is the hub for local buses and trains. Rakino Island
Rakino Island is one of the many islands in the Hauraki Gulf, an arm of the Pacific Ocean to the northeast of Auckland, New Zealand. Rakino is a small island north-east of Motutapu Island. The island is long and about wide and has an area of 1.5 km² (0.58 sq mi / 371 acres). The two most popular bays have public access, but three others also have access from the sea. There are smaller bays and beaches without public access. The public wharf is at the south end of Sandy Bay, and a barge access ramp is at the western end of Sanford Way in Home Bay. The hilly topography comprises a fertile layer of volcanic topsoil from Rangitoto Island that overlays a thick mantle of clay soil which in turn overlays greywacke rock.
