Railroad
Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. Fort Smith Railroad
The Fort Smith Railroad is a Class III short-line railroad headquartered in Fort Smith, Arkansas. FSR operates an line in Arkansas from Fort Smith (where it interchanges with Kansas City Southern Railway, Union Pacific Railroad, and Arkansas and Missouri Railroad) to Fort Chaffee. FSR traffic generally consists of grain, food products, paper products, scrap and finished steel, lumber, peanuts, alcohol, military equipment, and charcoal. The FSR currently operates with three ex-Santa Fe Railroad EMD GP20 locomotives. The original line, consisting of to Paris, Arkansas, was built in the 1890s by a Union Pacific predecessor, and was leased to FSR in 1991. The portion between Fort Chaffee and Paris was abandoned in 1995. The Bauxite and Northern Railway is a Class III railroad operating in the United States state of Arkansas. BXN operates over of track in Bauxite, Arkansas. Traffic consists of largely of alumina, and the railroad hauls 4,059 carloads per year. In 2005, the railroad was purchased by holding company RailAmerica. In December 2012, Genesee & Wyoming acquired the railroad in its acquisition of RailAmerica. History The Bauxite and Northern Railway was incorporated in Arkansas on November 13, 1906 and began operations in 1907, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from the town of Bauxite Saline County to a junction with the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway. Fort Smith Trolley Museum
The Fort Smith Trolley Museum is a railway museum, streetcar and railroad museum in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Fort Smith, in the U.S. state of Arkansas, which includes an operating heritage streetcar line. The museum opened in 1985, and operation of its streetcar line began in 1991. Texas Eagle (Amtrak)
The ''Texas Eagle'' is a daily passenger train route operated by Amtrak between Chicago and San Antonio in the central and western United States. Prior to 1988, the train was known as the ''Eagle''. Trains #21 (southbound) and 22 (northbound) also convey a sleeping car and a coach (designated internally as Trains #421 and 422) to/from the '' Sunset Limited'' between San Antonio and Los Angeles on the days that tri-weekly train operates. The Prescott and Northwestern Railroad is a short-line railroad headquartered in Prescott, Arkansas. It is operated by Arkansas Midland Railroad, which is owned by Genesee & Wyoming. The railroad was chartered in 1890, for the purpose of constructing a railroad north-northwest from Prescott to access timberlands for the Ozan Lumber Company. The Ouachita Railroad Company is a short-line railroad headquartered in El Dorado, Arkansas, United States. OUCH operates a 26.2 mile line in Arkansas and Louisiana from El Dorado (where it interchanges with Union Pacific) to Lillie, Louisiana. North Louisiana And Arkansas Railroad
The North Louisiana and Arkansas Railroad (NL&AR) operates more than 62 miles of track, extending from McGehee, Arkansas to Lake Providence, Louisiana. The NL&AR owns about 24 miles of the track, while about 41 miles are leased from the Lake Providence Port Authority Commission and the Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District.
