Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. Roger Dowdeswell
Roger Dowdeswell (born 16 February 1944) is a former professional tennis player from Zimbabwe. He is the elder brother of Colin Dowdeswell. Playing career Dowdeswell made the second round of all four Grand Slam tournaments during his career. He played Davis Cup tennis for Rhodesia in 1965, against Yugoslavia. Desmond A. McKenzie, JP (born 1 December 1952) is a Jamaican politician and former mayor of the Kingston and Saint Andrew Corporation (KSAC), who held office between July 2003 and January 2012, when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for the constituency of Kingston Western. Graham Anderson Martin (September 22, 1912 – March 13, 1990) was an American diplomat. He was the ambassador to Thailand and as U.S. representative to SEATO from 1963 to 1967, ambassador to Italy from 1969 to 1973 and the last United States Ambassador to South Vietnam from 1973 until his evacuation during the Fall of Saigon in 1975. Orlando Lourenco (born 15 September 1964 in Gwelo) is a former tennis player from Zimbabwe. Lourenco represented his native country at the Tennis at the 1984 Summer Olympics – Men's singles, 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where he was defeated in the first round by France's Guy Forget. Lourenco reached his highest singles Association of Tennis Professionals, ATP-ranking on 5 November 1990, when he became world No. 853. Benjamin Lock (born 4 March 1993) is a Zimbabwean tennis player. He is a member of the Zimbabwe Davis Cup team. Lock won his first ITF Pro Circuit singles title in Mozambique in 2015. In November 2014, Lock has won his first doubles title on ITF Men's Circuit, playing alongside Jean-Yves Aubone in Niceville, Florida. Lock has won 25 ITF doubles titles. Hank Irvine
Douglas "Hank" Irvine (born September 1, 1943) is a Rhodesian born American former professional tennis player. Biography Born in Bulawayo, Irvine was a student of Prince Edward School in Salisbury and played a variety of sports early in life. He was a world ranked squash player and also represented Rhodesia in field hockey. A school teacher by profession, he played in two Davis Cup ties for Rhodesia, against Sweden in 1968 and Spain in 1969. While competing on the professional tour in the early 1970s he made several appearances at Wimbledon and the US Open. He was a mixed doubles semi-finalist at the 1970 Wimbledon Championships, partnering Helen Gourlay of Australia. Rashid Hassan (tennis)
Rashid Mekki Hassan is the Professor and Director at the Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy in Africa (CEEPA) at the University of Pretoria. He specialises in natural resource and environmental economics, agricultural economics, and optimisation and modelling of economic systems. Education Hassan holds a BSc and MSc., both in Agricultural Economics, from the University of Khartoum in 1977 and 1983 respectively. He proceeded to Iowa State University where he got MSc and Ph.D. degrees, both in Economics, in 1988 and 1989 respectively.
