American International University West Africa established The Gambia campus in January 2011 in Serekunda. The University offers medical program leading to Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree. The curriculum is based on American Medical Schools systems. The University is open to students from Africa. AIU Health Science Center consists of 5 colleges: College of Medicine (6 year Program), College of Dentistry (5 year program), College of Pharmacy (5 year program), College of Nursing (3 year program), College of Health Professionals: MLT (2 year program). EUCLID, also called ''Pôle Universitaire Euclide'' or Euclid University, is an international intergovernmental organization with a university charter established in 2008. It has official headquarters in The Gambia and in the Central African Republic, but also maintains an executive office in Washington, D.C. The University of the Gambia (UTG) is an institution of higher education located in Sere Kunda, the largest city in the Gambia. History The campus was founded in 1998 in Kotu-Kanifing, a suburb of Sere Kunda. It was not until March 1999 that the UTG started to offer courses, following a law passed by the National Assembly of the Gambia. In 1999, 300 students are reported to have been enrolled. As of 2002, the number of academic staff was 44. In 2006, nearly 2000 students were enrolled. The Gambian government has planned to create a new campus at Faraba Banta. International Open University
The International Open University (IOU) is a private distance education university headquartered in Kanifing, The Gambia. It was founded as the Islamic Online University by Bilal Philips in 2007 and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. Background Initially established in 2001, the program shut down due to technical difficulties. In April 2007, the IOU reopened under the name Islamic Online University, with a greater offering of completely free short courses. On January 13, 2020, it was announced through the IOU's official Facebook page that the institution's name has been changed to the International Open University. Ernest Bai Koroma, the chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone (USL) welcomed the idea of establishing the IOU type Islamic institution. The Gambia College
The Gambia College is a The Gambia, Gambian tertiary institution with campuses located in Banjul and Brikama. Its origins lie in the Yundum Teachers Training College, which was founded in 1952 and became the Yundum College in 1955, and the Gambia School of Nursing and Midwifery, the School of Agriculture and the School of Public Health. In 1978, those hitherto separated institutions were merged by an Act of Parliament and The Gambia College was established. The new college opened in 1980 with two campuses: the School of Nursing and Midwifery is based in Banjul, whereas the Schools of Agriculture, Education, and Public Health are located in Brikama. It closed in March 1981 due to major disturbances by students but reopened in October 1982. After the Gambia College Act was passed in 1989 which required the college to provide further education, it expanded in the 1990s.
