This page documents all tornadoes confirmed by various weather forecast offices of the National Weather Service in the United States from January to March 2018. Based on the 1991–2010 average, 35 tornadoes touch down in January, 29 touch down in February and 80 touch down in March. A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the Earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare cases, the base of a cumulus cloud. It is often referred to as a twister, whirlwind or cyclone, although the word cyclone is used in meteorology to name a weather system with a low-pressure area in the center around which, from an observer looking down toward the surface of the Earth, winds blow counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern. Arkansas
Arkansas ( ) is a landlocked state in the South Central United States. Greenbrier, Arkansas
Greenbrier is a city in Faulkner County, Arkansas, United States. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock– Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 5,707 at the 2020 census, up from 4,706 at the 2010 census. History Prior to European settlement, Native American tribes, including the Quapaw and later the Cherokee, lived in the area. Several historical figures of the Wild West such as Jim Bowie and Jesse James passed through the Greenbrier region toward Oklahoma and Texas. Little River County, Arkansas
Little River County is a county located on the southwest border of the U.S. state of Arkansas, bordering a corner with Texas and Oklahoma. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,026. The county seat is Ashdown. Little River County is included in the Texarkana, TX- AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Little River County is Arkansas's 59th county, formed from Sevier County on March 5, 1867, during the Reconstruction era and named for the Little River. The county is separated from all other surrounding counties in the state by water (a characteristic shared only with neighboring Miller County). The Little River, Millwood Lake and the Red River form the boundaries of the county within the state. Around 1895 the Arkansas and Choctaw Railway was built between Arkinda and Ashdown. Malta, Texas
Malta is an unincorporated community in Bowie County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 297 in 1990. It is part of the Texarkana metropolitan area. History It was named for the city of Malta, Illinois, by early settler Lynn Tucker. A post office was established in Malta in 1896 and remained in operation until the 1950s, with Jeff D. Norman as the postmaster. Its population was 243 at the start of the 20th century and remained there until it began to decline in the 1940s. There were no businesses and only 85 residents in 1985. Five years later, the population jumped to 297. On April 30, 1954, an F3 tornado struck Malta. Lawrence County, Missouri
Lawrence County is located in the southwest portion of the U.S. state of Missouri, in the area of the Ozarks. As of the 2010 census, the population was 38,634. Its county seat is Mount Vernon.
