Khulna University
Khulna University ( bn, খুলনা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is a public university in Gollamari, Khulna, Bangladesh. It is near the river Moyur, beside the Sher e Bangla Road (Khulna-Satkhira highway). The academic programs of Khulna University started on 31 August 1991 with 80 students in four disciplines. As of November 2019, the university has 29 disciplines under six schools and two institutes. It is the only public university in Bangladesh where student politics is not allowed. History In 1974, the Kudrat-e-Khuda Commission stated the importance of establishing a public university in Khulna Division in its final report. Bangabandhu Bridge, also known as the Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge ( bn, যমুনা বহুমুখী সেতু ''Jomuna Bohumukhi Setu'') is a bridge opened in Bangladesh in June 1998. It connects Bhuapur on the Jamuna River's east bank to Sirajganj on its west bank. It was the 11th longest bridge in the world when constructed in 1998 and at present is the 6th longest bridge in South Asia. The Jamuna River, which it spans, is one of the three major rivers of Bangladesh, and is fifth largest in the world in discharge volume. History of construction The river Jamuna ( Brahmaputra), along with the lower stretch of the Padma ( Ganges) divides Bangladesh into nearly two equal halves. It was established in 2011 and named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Every year, around 2,750 students enroll in undergraduate programs. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) is a graduate medical university in Bangladesh. It was established in 1965. The university offers postgraduate degrees only, not offering undergraduate medical or dental degrees. History Establishment of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University was an upgrade of the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR). IPGMR was established in December 1965, as a Government-controlled postgraduate institute for medical research and studies. ''Mritunjoyi Mujib'' () is a mural created in 2018 by Kanak Kumar Pathak. It is located on the campus area of the Islamic University, Bangladesh. It is a remarkable mural or portrait wall painting commemorating Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder and the first president of Bangladesh. In 2020, the phrase ''Mrityunjoyi Mujib'', the name of this mural, was at the top of the ranking in the searches of Google from Bangladesh. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ( bn, শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান; 17 March 1920 – 15 August 1975), often shortened as Sheikh Mujib or Mujib and widely known as Bangabandhu (meaning ''Friend of Bengal''), was a Bengali politician, parliamentarian and the founding leader of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He first served as the titular President of the Provisional Government of Bangladesh between April 1971 and January 1972.
