Bhawal National Park ( bn, ভাওয়াল জাতীয় উদ্যান) is a nature reserve and the national park of Bangladesh. History Bhawal National Park was established and maintained as a National Park in 1974; it was officially declared in 1982 under the Wildlife Act of 1974. By origin, it was the forest of Madhupur under the rule of Bhawal Estate. It is located in Gazipur, Dhaka Division of Bangladesh, approximately 40 km north of Dhaka city, only 20 km drive from Gazipur and 20 km from Kapasia. The core area of the park covers 940 hectares (2,322 acres) but extends to 5,022 ha (12,409 acres) of surrounding forest. Its purpose is to protect important habitats as well as to provide opportunities for recreation. It has been kept under IUCN Management Category V, as a protected landscape. Begum Sufia Kamal (20 June 1911 – 20 November 1999) was a Bangladeshi poet, feminist leader, and political activist. She took part in the Bengali nationalist movement of the 1950s and civil society leader in independent Bangladesh. She led feminist activism and was a president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. She died in 1999 and was the first woman to be given a state funeral in Bangladesh. Early life and family Syeda Sufia Begum was born on 20 June 1911, in her maternal home Rahat Manzil in Shayestabad, located in the Backergunge District of Eastern Bengal and Assam. Her paternal family were the ''zamindars'' of Shilaur in Brahmanbaria, and they claimed descent from Ali, the fourth Caliph of Islam. Kazi M Badruddoza (born 1 January 1927) is a National Emeritus Scientist working for the National Agricultural Research System of Bangladesh. Education and career He completed his B.Sc.Ag (Hons) from the University of Dhaka in 1952 and later received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. Among different posts, Badruddoza was director general for the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council.
