List Of The Best Czech Basketball Players Of The 20th Century
The Czech Basketball Federation and The Association of Czech Basketball League Clubs, announced the Czechoslovakian All-20th Century Basketball Team. A total of twenty-five basketball players were selected for the All-Century Team. It was decided by a vote of fans, sports journalists, and basketball experts. The results were announced on Saturday June 16, 2001. Jiri Zidek Sr., was chosen as The Best Czech Basketball Player of the 20th Century. Czech Basketball Federation
The Czech Basketball Federation ( cs, Česká basketbalová federace), also known as (ČBF) is the governing body of basketball in the Czech Republic. It was founded after the dissolution of the unified state in 1993, with the Slovakia national basketball team continuing as the successor of the Czechoslovak team. They organize national competitions in the Czech Republic for the Czech men's national team and Czech women's national team. The top level professional league is the National Basketball League. Jiří Zedníček
Jiří Zedníček (born February 14, 1945) is a former Czech professional basketball player. He was voted to the Czechoslovakian 20th Century Team. Club career In his club career, Zedníček won the European-wide secondary level FIBA Cup Winner's Cup (later called FIBA Saporta Cup) championship, in the 1968–69 season. He was a member of the FIBA European Selection Team in 1966, 1967, 1969, 1971, and 1972. National team career Zedníček represented the senior Czechoslovakian national team at several EuroBaskets, and at the 1972 Summer Olympic Games. At the EuroBasket 1967, he was named the MVP of the tournament. With the national team, he also won a silver medal at the EuroBasket in Finland, in 1967, and a bronze medal at the EuroBasket in Italy, in 1969. Jiří Růžička (born 4 June 1941) is a Czech former basketball player. He was voted to the Czechoslovakian 20th Century Team in 2001. Playing career Club career During his club career, Růžička won six Czechoslovakian League championships (1965, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, and 1974). He also won the European-wide secondary level FIBA Saporta Cup championship, in the 1968–69 season. He was named to the FIBA European Selection Team in 1967. National team career With the senior Czechoslovakian national team, Růžička competed in the men's tournament at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Zdeněk Kos
Zdeněk Kos (born 23 June 1951) is a Czech former basketball player and coach. He was voted to the Czechoslovakian 20th Century Team in 2001. Kos was granted Austrian citizenship in 1996. Playing career Club career During his club playing career, Kos won three Czechoslovakian League championships, in the years 1970, 1973, and 1975. He was also named the Czechoslovakian Player of the Year four times, in the years 1974, 1975, 1977, and 1978. From 1982 to 1985, he played for BK Klosterneuburg in Austria, winning the national championship in each season. After returning to Olomouc in 1985, he went back to Austria in 1989, where he spent one season as player/coach at TS Innsbruck, before focussing on coaching. National team career With the senior Czechoslovakian national team, Kos competed in the men's tournament at the 1972 Summer Olympics, the 1976 Summer Olympics, and the 1980 Summer Olympics. Jiří "Áda" Pospíšil (9 September 1950 – 13 June 2019) was a Czech basketball player. He was voted to the Czechoslovakian 20th Century Team. The 1955 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1955, was the ninth FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA. Miroslav Škeřík (14 October 1924 – 11 January 2013) was a Czech professional basketball player. At 6'5 " (1.97 m) tall, he played the center position. Jiří Baumruk (27 June 1930 – 23 November 1989) was a Czech professional basketball player and coach. Club career Baumruk spent his club career playing with Slavia Prague (1952–1953), and namely with Sparta Prague (1950–1951, 1954–1964). With Sparta Prague, he earned nine medals in the Czechoslovak Basketball League (once champion, five times vice-champion, three times 3rd place).
