Sydney Roosters
The Sydney Roosters are an Australian professional Rugby league, Rugby League Football Club based in the Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) and parts of inner Sydney. The club competes in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition. The Roosters have won fifteen New South Wales Rugby League premiership, New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) and National Rugby League titles, and several other competitions. First founded as the Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club (ESDRLFC), it is the only club to have played in each and every season at the elite level, and since the 1970s has often been dubbed the glamour club of the league. The Sydney Roosters have won 15 premierships, equal to the record of the St George Dragons. Only the South Sydney Rabbitohs have won more premierships. 1941 NSWRFL Season
The 1941 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the thirty-fourth season of Sydney’s top-level rugby league competition, Australia’s first. Eight teams from across the city contested the premiership during the season, which lasted from April until August, culminating in Eastern Suburbs’ loss to St. George in the grand final. 1963 NSWRFL Season
The 1963 NSWRFL season was the 56th season of the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership based in Sydney. Ten teams from across the city competed for the J J Giltinan Shield and WD & HO Wills Cup during the season, which culminated in a replay of the previous two years' grand finals between St. George and Western Suburbs. Teams Ladder Finals Grand Final The crowd of 69,806 who turned out for the grand final was a record. From the opening whistle the 1963 decider was a gruelling affair. Heavy rain meant that the wet SCG pitch quickly became a quagmire and players unrecognisable. At one point, St George five-eighth, Bruce Pollard was blinded by the mud such that he couldn't pass or catch the ball so he swapped places with Johnny Raper and played out the second half at lock. 1960's New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the 53rd season of the rugby league competition based in Sydney. Ten teams from across the city competed for the J J Giltinan Shield and WD & HO Wills Cup during the season, which culminated in a grand final between St. George and Eastern Suburbs. Season summary With four teams finishing on equal second place at the end of the regular season, and no weight given to the "for" and "against" points differential, minor premiers St. George watched Western Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs, Balmain and Canterbury-Bankstown go through a four-match series of playoffs before the real finals commenced. In a double header at the Sydney Sports Ground, Easts and Wests won the right to play off for second and third spots, while Canterbury and Balmain's losses meant they would play off for the fourth and final place in the finals series. Dick Dunn (rugby League)
Richard Alfred Dunn (1920–2006) was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership (NSWRFL). Playing career Dunn played 148 matches for the Eastern Suburbs club in the years (1938–47). A local junior of that club, Dunn grew up idolising the senior players, carrying the kit bags of legends like Dave Brown and Ray Stehr; a few years later he was playing alongside of them. Dunn played most of his career in the s though in later years he moved to . Dunn played in four premiership deciders in his career, winning in 1940 and 1945. Dunn is best remembered for the 1945 Grand Final in which he scored 19 of East's 22 points, a record that still stands today for the most points scored in a premiership decider. Frank O'Connor (rugby League)
Francis Arthur O'Connor (1906-1964) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s and 1930s and represented his state and country. He was a triple premiership winner with South Sydney. Playing career South Sydney O'Connor was a champion forward who played for South Sydney for ten seasons between 1927 and 1937. O'Connor was a member of the champion Souths teams of the late 1920s and 1930s. He partnered his older brother Alf O'Connor in the winning 1929 Grand Final team, and played in two more winning grand finals - the 1931 Grand Final and the 1932 Grand Final. Representative O'Connor was also a representative player for New South Wales, playing fifteen times for the Blues between 1930 and 1934. Ferris Ashton
Ferris Arthur Ashton (21 August 1926 – 29 January 2013) was an Australian rugby league footballer who represented his country in 8 test matches. Ferris was also a member of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) during the Second World War. Club career Ashton was born in Sydney, New South Wales, and began his rugby league career playing with the Bondi United club at a junior level. In 1950 the burly forward began his senior career with Eastern Suburbs. Col Donohoe
Matthew Colin "Col" Donohoe (1929-1986) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer for the Eastern Suburbs and South Sydney clubs, playing between 1951 and 1959. Club career Col Donohoe, a half-back, played 4 seasons with the Sydney Roosters in 1949, 1951,1952 and 1953. Donohoe then played 5 seasons at South Sydney Rabbitohs between 1955 and 1959. He is remembered by South's fans as the man who scored a try late in the grand final that won South Sydney Rabbitohs the 1955 Premiership. Ernie Norman
Ernest James Norman (12 October 1912 – 3 August 1993) was an Australian rugby league player - a state and national representative or . His club career was with the Eastern Suburbs club in the New South Wales Rugby Football League competition. Norman played with Easts for nine seasons between 1931 and 1939. He played over 100 matches for that club and was a member of the Easts sides that won consecutive premierships in seasons 1935, 1936 and 1937. Playing career Norman was born in Paddington, New South Wales in 1912 and was an Eastern Suburbs junior. He was graded with Easts at seventeen years of age and made his Australian debut two years later at nineteen. Throughout his career he made fifteen state representative appearances for New South Wales and played in twelve Tests for the Australia national rugby league team. Percy Williams (Australia)
Percy Edmund Williams (1910-1996) was an Australian rugby league player who played in the 1930s and 1940s. Playing career A Souths junior, Williams became a long serving and valuable member of the South Sydney club in the 1930s. He played seven seasons with South Sydney between 1931-1938 and also captained the club during the mid 1930s. Williams was a dual premiership winner with Souths, playing halfback in the 1931 and 1932 Grand Final teams. Williams represented New South Wales on 15 occasions between 1932-1938 and was selected on the 1937-38 Kangaroo Tour, playing in two tests against England and two tests against New Zealand. Joe Pearce (Australian Rugby League)
Sid 'Joe' Pearce (7 September 1910 – 16 October 1995) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. An Australian international and New South Wales representative second-row forward, he played his club football for Eastern Suburbs with whom he won the New South Wales Rugby League premiership in 1935, 1936, 1937 and 1940. Son of fellow Australian Rugby League Hall of Famer, Sandy Pearce, he is considered one of the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century. Club career He was a junior Australian Rules footballer in Sydney's eastern suburbs district but switched to rugby league and first appeared as a full-back for the Tricolours in 1929 before moving into the forwards.
