List Of Submissions To The 36th Academy Awards For Best Foreign Language Film
This is a list of submissions to the 36th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 36th Academy Awards, fourteen films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Poland and the USSR submitted films to the competition for the first time. Pakistan didn't submit a film again until 2013 with ''Zinda Bhaag'' being submitted. Khwaja Khurshid Anwar (21 March 1912 − 30 October 1984) was a Pakistani filmmaker, writer, director and music composer who earned recognition in both India and Pakistan. He is credited as being one of the most original and inventive music directors of his generation. ''Ghunghat'' ( ur, گھونگھٹ, " Face-veil") is a 1962 Pakistani musical film directed by Khawaja Khurshid Anwar who also wrote the story and screenplay. The film features Nayyar Sultana and Santosh Kumar as leads with Neelo, Laila, Ghulam Mohammad and Bibbo in supporting roles. Fons Rademakers
Alphonse Marie "Fons" Rademakers (5 September 1920 – 22 February 2007) was a Dutch actor, film director, film producer and screenwriter. His 1960 film '' Makkers Staakt uw Wild Geraas'' was entered into the 11th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Bear Award. During a career spanning several decades he directed 11 films, including '' The Assault'', which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1986, and ''The Village on the River'', nominated for the same award in 1959. Making him both the first Dutch director to be nominated and win this award. He granted a wide-ranging interview to Radio Netherlands in 1987. He died in 2007 in a Geneva hospital of emphysema, after the life-support machines were switched off at his request. Ismael Rodríguez (October 19, 1917 – August 7, 2004) was a Mexican film director. Rodríguez rose to fame due to the movies he directed starring Pedro Infante, and directed many major stars, including Dolores del Río, María Félix, Toshiro Mifune, Jorge Negrete, Sara García, Luis Aguilar, Tito Guízar, Gloria Marín, Carmelita González, Antonio Aguilar, Columba Domínguez or Flor Silvestre. Noboru Nakamura
was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Biography After graduating from Tokyo Imperial University in 1936, Nakamura joined the Shochiku film studios, working as an assistant director for Torajirō Saitō and Yasujirō Shimazu. He debuted as director in 1941 with ''Life and Rhythm'', and finally received recognition with his 1951 film ''Home Sweet Home''. His most noted works include the Yasunari Kawabata adaptation ''Twin Sisters of Kyoto'' (1963), ''The Kii River'' (1966) and ''Portrait of Chieko'' (1968). Both ''Twin Sisters of Kyoto'' and ''Portrait of Chieko'' were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film His 1967 film ''Lost Spring'' was entered into the 17th Berlin International Film Festival.
