''Bound for Cairo'' (Spanish: ''Rumbo al Cairo'') is a 1935 Spanish musical film, musical comedy film directed by Benito Perojo and starring Miguel Ligero (Spanish actor), Miguel Ligero and María del Carmen Merino. The film was produced by the largest Spanish company Cifesa, and was patterned after successful Hollywood (film industry), Hollywood films of the same kind. It has been described as one of the most accomplished Spanish films of the period. Louis King
Louis King (June 28, 1898 – September 7, 1962) was an American actor and film director of westerns and adventure movies in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. Citwf.com; accessed July 23, 2015. Biography King was born in Christiansburg, Virginia. His name was also written as L.H. King and Lewis King. A brother of director Henry King (director), Henry King, he entered the film business in 1919 as a character actor. He specialized in villains and blusterers. Zarzuela
() is a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that alternates between spoken and sung scenes, the latter incorporating operatic and popular songs, as well as dance. The etymology of the name is uncertain, but some propose it may derive from the name of a royal hunting lodge, the Palace of Zarzuela, near Madrid, where that type of entertainment was allegedly first presented to the court. The palace in turn was named after the brambles () that grew there. There are two main forms of ''zarzuela'': Baroque ''zarzuela'' (c. 1630–1750), the earliest style, and Romantic ''zarzuela'' (c. 1850–1950). Romantic zarzuelas can be further divided into two main subgenres, ''género grande'' and ''género chico'', although other sub-divisions exist. It premiered on 17 February 1894 in Teatro Apolo, Madrid. It was later adapted for the cinema in 1921 by José Buchs, in 1935 as '' Paloma Fair'' by Benito Perojo and in 1963 as ''The Fair of the Dove'' by José Luis Sáenz de Heredia. The work premiered with the cast including Emilio Mesejo (Julián), Luisa Campos (Susana), Leocadia Alba (Señá Rita), Don José Mesejo (''tabernero''), Manolo Rodríguez (Don Hilarión) and Irene Alba (Casta). María Magdalena Nile del Río (26 December 1906 – 22 August 2003) was an Argentine professional singer and movie actress, better known as Imperio Argentina; she became a citizen of Spain in 1999. María Magdalena Nile del Río was born to Antonio Nile (a guitar player, born in Gibraltar) and Rosario del Río (a native of Monda in the Province of Málaga). She performed onstage in her native Argentina, where she had a long and successful career. At that time, her stage name was ''Pettit Imperio''. But her most successful moments came after she moved to Spain. It was there that she changed her name to ''Imperio Argentina'', as a way to honor her "other country". While in Spain, del Río participated in many movies, and she participated frequently in television and radio. She obtained Spanish citizenship in 1999.
