Laos
Laos (, ''Lāo'' )), officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic ( Lao: ສາທາລະນະລັດ ປະຊາທິປະໄຕ ປະຊາຊົນລາວ, French: République démocratique populaire lao), is a socialist state and the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia. At the heart of the Indochinese Peninsula, Laos is bordered by Myanmar and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the southeast, and Thailand to the west and southwest. Its capital and largest city is Vientiane. Present-day Laos traces its historic and cultural identity to Lan Xang, which existed from the 14th century to the 18th century as one of the largest kingdoms in Southeast Asia. Because of its central geographical location in Southeast Asia, the kingdom became a hub for overland trade and became wealthy economically and culturally. Sepon River
The Sepon River ( vi, Sông Xê-pôn, Lao: ''Se Pon'') is a small river at Lao Bảo border area of Quảng Trị Province, Vietnam and Savannakhet Province of Laos. It forms a border between Vietnam and Laos. One side of the river belongs to Vietnam and other belongs to Laos. The Sepon River is one metre deep and approximately 100 m wide. The water is fresh and clean in summer because it is not near any industry. Surrounding the Sepon River is jungle. The Sepon River belongs to Hướng Hóa District of Vietnam and Savannakhet Province of Laos. Therefore, it is a main artery for the two provinces near there (Lao Bảo and the city of Savannakhet). It is used for buying and exchange trade and commerce in Lao Bảo and Savan of Laos. Every day, there are several motor boat to-and-fro here for supplying goods coming to Lao Bảo town. Nam Song River
The Nam Song River, also transliterated as Nam Xong, is a small river in Laos that flows through the town of Vang Vieng. It is a popular tourist destination as many people enjoy seeing the Laotian countryside while going down the river in the inner tube of a tractor tyre or in a kayak. The river is surrounded by striking karst rock formations. Upstream from Vang Vieng, numerous bars have been built on the river's banks to attract the tourists floating by. Nam Song River is connected to Nam Ngum Reservoir by Nam Song Diversion Dam. The Nam Po River flows into the Nam Song just to the south of Ban Nampo village to the north of Vang Vieng. Nam Ngum
Nam Ngum ( Laotian: ນໍ້າງືມ ) is a 354 km long river in Laos. It is a major tributary of the Mekong River. Geography The Nam Ngum originates from the northern mountainous region of Xiangkhoang Province and flows south through Vientiane Province joining the Mekong at the capital of Laos, Vientiane. The Nam Ngum river basin is home to about one million people in Laos. The current largest dam on Nam Ngum, Nam Ngum Dam (Nam Ngum 1 Hydropower Project) was originally constructed between 1968 and 1971. There are also four other hydropower projects under construction or planned for construction on the Nam Ngum River. Tourism destinations along Nam Ngum include the Nam Ngum Lake, Dansavanh Nam Ngum Resort, and Vang Vieng. Nam Theun (also known as ''Khading''), is a river in Laos, in Khammouane Province, Khammouane and Bolikhamsai Provinces. Together with its tributaries Nam One, Nam Noy, and Nam Theun it has total length of and drains an area of . "Nam Theun" is also three options for large dams on the same river, called Nam Theun 1, Nam Theun 1-2 and Nam Theun 2.
