Laos–Thailand Border
The Laos–Thailand border is the international border between the territory of Laos and Thailand. The border is 1,845 km (1,146 m) in length, over half of which follows the Mekong River, and runs from the tripoint with Myanmar in the north to tripoint with Cambodia in the south. Description The border starts in the north at the tripoint with Myanmar at the confluence of the Kok and Mekong rivers, following the latter towards the south-east. It then leaves the river and proceeds overland in a broadly southwards direction over various hill ridges, down to the Hueang River. It then follows this river to the north-east up to the confluence with the Mekong, from where it follows the Mekong for the majority of the border's length. Amphoe Na Haeo
Na Haeo ( th, นาแห้ว; ) is the westernmost district (''amphoe'') of Loei province, northeastern Thailand. History Na Haeo area was the rural part of Dan Sai district. For people in Na Haeo it was inconvenient due to the distance involved. The government split off the two ''tambons'' Na Haeo and Na Phueng from Dan Sai District and created a minor district ('' king amphoe'') on 15 February 1970. It was upgraded to a full district on 8 September 1976. Geography Neighboring districts are (from the east clockwise): Dan Sai of Loei Province, Nakhon Thai and Chat Trakan of Phitsanulok province. To the north is Xaignabouli province of Laos. The important water resource is the Hueang River. Phu Suan Sai National Park is in this district. Amphoe Phu Ruea
Phu Ruea ( th, ภูเรือ, ) is a district (''amphoe'') in the western part of Loei province, northeastern Thailand. History The government split off some parts of Tha Li, Mueang Loei, and Dan Sai Districts and made them into the minor district ('' king amphoe'') Phu Ruea on 15 October 1968 and made it a subordinate of Dan Sai. It was upgraded to a full district on 1 April 1974. Geography The district is named after Phu Ruea, an important mountain in the area. Neighboring districts are (from the northeast clockwise): Tha Li, Mueang Loei, Wang Saphung, Phu Luang of Loei Province; Lom Kao of Phetchabun province; and Dan Sai of Loei. To the northwest is Xaignabouli province of Laos. To the north of the district is the Phu Ruea National Park, to the south the Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary. The Mekong or Mekong River is a trans-boundary river in East Asia and Southeast Asia. It is the world's List of rivers by length, twelfth longest river and List of longest rivers of Asia, the third longest in Asia. Thailand has 22 river basins with 254 sub-basins. Rainwater is one of the most important sources of water. Thailand's water resource per capita is less than that of other countries in the region. The two principal river systems of Thailand are the Chao Phraya and the Mekong. Together, these rivers support the irrigation for Thailand's agricultural economy.
