Restaurateur
A restaurateur is a person who opens and runs restaurants professionally. Although over time the term has come to describe any person who owns a restaurant, traditionally it refers to a highly skilled professional who is proficient in all aspects of the restaurant business. Etymology The French word comes from the Late Latin term ("restorer") and from the Latin term ''restaurare''. The word ''restaurateur'' is simply French for a person who owns or runs a restaurant. The feminine form of the French noun is ''restauratrice''. A less common variant spelling ''restauranteur'' is formed from the "more familiar" term ''restaurant'' with the French suffix ''-eur'' borrowed from ''restaurateur''. It is considered a misspelling by some. The ''Oxford English Dictionary'' gives examples of this variant (described as "originally American") going back to 1837. H. L. Stephen Starr
Stephen Starr (born 1957) is an American restaurateur and former entertainment promoter based in Philadelphia. He owns the Starr Restaurants group which operates over thirty restaurants. He has restaurants in many different areas both in the United States as well as overseas. These restaurants include Alma De Cuba, Barclay Prime, Buddakan, Butcher and Singer, The Continental Mid-town, The Dandelion, El Rey, El Vez, Fette Sau, Frankford Hall, Jones, Morimoto, Parc, Pod, Serpico, Stella, Talula's Daily, Talula's Garden, and The Love in Philadelphia. Eduardo Sousa
Eduardo Sousa Holm is a Spanish farmer who makes goose foie gras without gavage (force-feeding the geese), at his farm in Extremadura. Chef Dan Barber described his experience of Sousa's farm in his book, ''The Third Plate'', and at a TED presentation in 2008 on the radio show ''This American Life'' in 2011. Eduardo Sousa has been operating his family farm and adjunct restaurant, La Pateria de Sousa, which claims to have been in continual production since 1812. La Pateria de Sousa was awarded the Coup de Coeur award at the Salon International d'Alimentation, SIAL 2006, in Paris. Wilhelmina Skogh
Lorentina Wilhelmina Skogh, born Wahlgren (14 December 1849 in the parish of Rute on Gotland, Sweden – 18 June 1926) was a hotel manager and owned a number of hotels and restaurants in Sweden. Ken Oringer (born 1965 in Paramus, New Jersey) is a Boston-based chef who is a business partner of Jamie Bissonnette. Georges Mora
Georges Mora (26 June 1913 – 7 June 1992) was a German-born Australian entrepreneur, art dealer, patron, connoisseur and restaurateur. Early life Mora was born Gunter Morawski on 26 June 1913 in Leipzig, Germany, of Jewish Polish heritage. As a young medical student Mora became a member of a communist cell and fled Germany to Paris in 1930. When the Spanish Civil War broke out, Georges left Paris to join the cause.
