Phyllis Lambert
Phyllis Barbara Lambert, (née Bronfman; born January 24, 1927) is a Canadian architect, philanthropist, and member of the Bronfman family. Life Born in Montreal, Quebec, she studied at The Study, a premier independent school for girls, and was educated at the liberal arts Vassar College ( BA in 1948). At the age of nine she was already committed to sculpture and her drawing skills were commented upon as remarkable early on in life. And at eleven she began exhibiting in annual juried exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts and the Société des Sculpteurs du Canada. While reading architecture history in New York she became engaged with the connections of art and architecture which would last a lifetime. Her family is of Jewish background. Julien Hébert
Julien Hébert (August 19, 1917 – May 24, 1994) was a Québécois industrial designer, perhaps most famous for creating the logo of the Montreal World Exposition, Expo 67. Formerly a student of philosophy, Hébert began his design education as a student of sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, continuing in 1947 in Paris under Ossip Zadkine. Hébert later became a teacher himself, teaching art history and sculpture at his alma mater, the École des beaux-arts, and instructing in planning and design at the École du meuble. He went on to assist in the establishment of the École du design industriel at the University of Montreal Earlier in his career he was also active as a comics artist. His best known series was ''Mouchette''. Dan Hanganu
Dan Sergiu Hanganu, (January 27, 1939 – October 5, 2017) was a Romanian-born Canadian architect. Based in Montreal, Quebec, he designed a number of prominent Quebec buildings, including the new wing of the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, the HEC Montréal building, the concert Hall of Rimouski, the UQAM design school and several other mixed-use, commercial, residential and cultural buildings in Montreal, Europe and Asia. Hanganu was the recipient of an impressive list of awards and publications, including; the Order of Canada, the Governor General's award and was also awarded the RAIC gold medal in 2008 for lifetime achievement. Dan Hanganu died on October 5, 2017, in Montreal, Quebec. Michael Fish (architect)
Michael James S. Fish (born October 23, 1934) is a Canadian architect and urban conservationist, best known for his attempts to preserve heritage buildings in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Biography Michael Fish began his career in Montreal in 1956, mostly involved in new apartment building construction. Soon, he developed an interest in renovating established buildings rather than constructing after demolition. He noted that it was less expensive and less disruptive to the cohesion of neighbourhoods. Karl Fischer (February 22, 1949 – March 12, 2019) was a Hungarian-born architect with practices in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and New York City. Career and firm A graduate of the McGill University School of Architecture, with both Bachelor of Science in Architecture (1971) and Bachelor of Architecture (1972) degrees, Fischer established his Canadian practice in 1984 and an office in New York City in 1999. Robert Findlay
Robert Findlay (1859–1951) was a Scottish-born Canadian architect. He was born in Inverness, Scotland, and moved to Montreal in 1885. He won the competition to expand the first Sun Life Building and was the architect for that project, which he began in 1890. The Sun Life company left that building for the current Sun Life Building in 1913. Career Findlay cultivated an extensive practice, working in later years with his son, Frank. He designed several mansions in the Golden Square Mile and a number of other large private houses in Westmount, as well as Westmount City Hall. His private clients included four members of the Molson family, Robert Wilson Reford, F.E. Meredith, Charles Meredith, J.K.L. Ross, Sir Edward Beatty, Charles Francis Smithers, A.A. Harold Lea Fetherstonhaugh ( ; 1887–1971) was a Canadian architect from Montreal, Quebec. Biography He received a diploma from McGill University in architecture in 1909, before perfecting his work alongside brothers Edward Maxwell and William Sutherland Maxwell. He founded a partnership in 1923 with J. C. McDougall, and in founded a sole proprietorship in 1934, where he worked until 1955. He is perhaps best known as the architect of the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in Montreal. Alexander Francis Dunlop
Alexander Francis Dunlop (August 4, 1842 – April 30, 1923), was a Canadian architect from Montreal, Quebec. Biography Dunlop worked as an apprentice to Montreal architects George Browne and John James Browne. From 1871 to 1874 he lived and worked in Detroit, Michigan. He opened his own architectural firm in Montreal in 1874. The firm operated until his death in 1923. He became the president of the ''Association of Architects of the Province of Quebec'' in 1890 and in 1907 became the first president of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. The career of Dunlop took off following the realization of the Saint James United Church on Saint Catherine Street in Montreal, which took place from 1887 to 1889. Jean Dumontier
Jean Dumontier (23 June 1935 – 27 December 2018) was a Canadian- Quebecois architect and artist. He is best known for having designed the Montreal Metro stations Jean-Drapeau (serving the Expo 67 site) and Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke. He was also the first architect of the subway to have himself created the works of art for the stations of his own design, those being the four concrete walls of the dock of the station Jean-Drapeau. Biography Born in Rigaud in 1935, Jean Dumontier was hired by the city of Montreal in the 1960s, joining the team of architects who developed the Montreal Metro in 1962. He was entrusted with the design of stations that would serve Expo 67, Île-Sainte-Hélène and Longueuil (today Jean-Drapeau and Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke).
