Sélingué Dam
The Sélingué Dam is an embankment dam with a gravity section located in the Sikasso Region, on the Sankarani River, one of the affluents of the Niger River. It is an important center of energy production in Mali surpassed only by the Manantali Dam on the Bafing River. Its construction, at the cost of 140 million US dollars, was financed by several backers. The dam has a crest length of and a height of . With a power output of 44 MW, the dam has an energy output of 200 million kilowatt-hours per year. Sankarani River
The Sankarani River is a tributary of the Niger River. Flowing northward from the Guinea Highlands of the Fouta Djallon in Guinea, it crosses into southern Mali, where it joins the Niger approximately upstream of Bamako, the capital of Mali. It forms part of the Ivory Coast-Guinea and GuineaâMali borders. The Sankarani River watershed, traditionally well suited to crops and rich in iron and gold, covers some , two-thirds of which are in Guinea, where it is joined by three tributaries: the Kourai, Yeremou and Dion Rivers. In Mali, it flows into the Niger River upstream of Bamako near the village of Kourouba. Lake Sélingué
Lake Sélingué is a 409 km2 artificial lake in Mali's Sikasso Region, formed by the Selingue dam, Sélingué Hydroelectric dam on the Sankarani River. Its southwestern arm forms part of the border with Guinea. Lake Sélingué, rising and falling in the rainy and dry seasons, allows agriculture on the irrigated perimeters, managed by the Office of Rural Development of Sélingué, as well as fishing. Since its creation, numerous communities have grown along the lake, the two largest being the towns of La CarriÚre and Faraba. Fishing the lake provides employment for more than 8,000 people in its various fishing communities, with an annual catch of around 4,000 tonnes. FĂ©lou Hydroelectric Plant
The Félou Hydroelectric Plant is a hydroelectric installation at the Félou Falls on the Sénégal River in Mali. It has three water turbines capable of generating 62.3 MW. The current power station replaced an older one built in the 1920s. Construction of the new power station began in October 2009 and was financed by the World Bank. It is the third Senegal River Basin Development Authority project on the river and was completed in 2014. The existing weir was refurbished with the previous height maintained. In 1927, the previous hydroelectric power station was commissioned. It was refurbished in 1992 and had an installed capacity of 600 kW.
