List Of Political Parties In Jersey
Although the politics of Jersey has been largely based on independent parliamentary representatives, from time to time the island has had political parties. There are currently 4 active political parties in the island. In 2000, the Clothier report noted that "over the centuries Jersey has had many parties, by which one means only a coming together of like minds to achieve a particular objective. Once achieved, the binding purpose has disappeared and the group pursuing it has dissolved. Such a grouping is not a true political party because it lacks the cement of a common philosophy of government, having only a narrow objective to hold it together until the objective is either attained or lost". Various parties have been formed over the years in Jersey, but since the 1950s the majority of candidates have stood for election unaffiliated to any political party. Current parties History 18th century Historically, two parties dominated Jersey politics. Originating in the 1770s, ...

The head of the civil administration and judiciary is the Bailiff Timothy Le Cocq, while the Chief Minister Kristina Moore is the head of government. Legislative and executive power is vested in the States of Jersey, which is composed of the Assembly of States members (States Assembly, French: ''Assemblé des États''). Elected States members appoint the Council of Ministers (including the Chief Minister and other Ministers), which is the decision-making body of the island's government, the Government of Jersey. Other powers are exercised by the Connétable and Parish Assembly in each of the twelve parishes. As one of the Crown dependencies, Jersey is sovereign territory of the Crown, but is not part of the United Kingdom. Jersey can be best described as "neither a col ...

Council Of Ministers Of Jersey
The Council of Ministers (french: Conseil des Ministres; nrf, label=Jèrriais, Conseil des Minnistre) is the collective decision-making body of the Government of Jersey, formed by the Ministers of the States of Jersey and the Chief Minister. The council co-ordinates policies and administration, especially policy affecting two or more ministers, prioritises executive and legislative proposals, and presents a "Strategic Plan for Jersey" for approval by the States Assembly. The Government of Jersey is the executive and administrative arm of the States of Jersey and the identity used by the Council of Ministers for these purposes. All ministers in the council are appointed by, and must be, members of the States. The council does not represent a parliamentary majority as ministers may be elected on a variety of manifestos. The executive is prevented from constituting a majority of the 51 elected members by the States of Jersey Law 2005, which places a legal cap of 22 on the numbe ...

Communist Party Of Jersey
The Jersey Communist Party was a political party on the island of Jersey. The JCP seems to have had a semi-autonomous relation to the Communist Party of Great Britain. During the Second World War, when Jersey was under Nazi occupation, the JCP-leader Norman Le Brocq led a resistance group called Jersey Democratic Movement. The resistance helped many of the Soviet forced labourers that the Germans had brought to the island. JDM, the JCP and Transport and General Workers’ Union distributed propaganda. With the aid of a German deserter, Paul Mulbach, they apparently had some success in turning the soldiers of the garrison against their masters, including most notably the highest military authority in the Islands, Huffmeier. There is some evidence to suggest that they had even set a date for this mutiny (1 May 1945), but that it was rendered pointless by the suicide of Adolf Hitler.Tabb, A Peculiar Occupation, (Jersey 2005) The history of the party is murky at best. Peter Tabb sugg ...

Cyril Le Marquand
Cyril Le Marquand (1902 - 1980) was a Jersey politician and businessman. He was born on 6 March 1902 at Bel Royal, St Lawrence, the only son of Joshua Le Marquand and Lilian Le Feuvre. He was educated at Victoria College from 1916 to 1919, and joined the family business of Le Marquand Brothers on leaving school. In 1939, just after the outbreak of war, he left Jersey with his family and lived in Wales, becoming a member of the Home Guard He returned to Jersey in 1945 and, as a founder of the Jersey Progressive Party, tried and failed to get elected as Deputy. In 1946, he gave evidence to the Privy Council Committee on States Reform, which led to the States Reform Bill (1948) removing rectors and jurats from the States, and making the Dean's role non-voting. In 1948, the first election after the reform, he was elected Deputy, along with ten other members of the Progressive Party, including his cousin John Le Marquand. In 1957, he was elected as Senator, topping the poll, and be ...

Écréhous
The Écréhous (or in Jèrriais: ''Êcrého'') are a group of islands and rocks situated six miles (9.6 km) north-east of Jersey, and eight miles (12.8 km) from France. They form part of the Bailiwick of Jersey and are administratively part of the Parish of Saint Martin, Jersey, St. Martin. Etymology The name 'Ecrehous' is old Norse language, Norse in origin. "Esker" as in Skerry meaning a stony bank and '-hou, Hou', the toponym found also in Jethou, Lihou, Brecqhou, Burhou and other islets, derives from ''holm'', meaning ''island''. The first part of the name appears to be traced back to the Norse word ''sker'', meaning ''reef''. The Ecrehos are actually, geologically, part of the same island group as Les Dirouilles (west) and Les Pierres de Lecq ('the Paternosters') (further west). Islets The most significant islets in the group are: *Maîtr'ÃŽle *La Marmotchiéthe ('La Marmotière' in French language, gallicized form) *Lé Bliantch'ÃŽle (''La Blanche ÃŽle'' in gallic ...

Green
Green is the color between cyan and yellow on the visible spectrum. It is evoked by light which has a dominant wavelength of roughly 495570 Nanometre, nm. In subtractive color systems, used in painting and color printing, it is created by a combination of yellow and cyan; in the RGB color model, used on television and computer screens, it is one of the additive primary colors, along with red and blue, which are mixed in different combinations to create all other colors. By far the largest contributor to green in nature is chlorophyll, the chemical by which plants photosynthesis, photosynthesize and convert sunlight into chemical energy. Many creatures have adapted to their green environments by taking on a green hue themselves as camouflage. Several minerals have a green color, including the emerald, which is colored green by its chromium content. During Post-classical history, post-classical and Early modern period, early modern Europe, green was the color commonly assoc ...
