A pipe band is a musical ensemble consisting of pipers and drummers. There are many such bands in the world, which play for ceremonial purposes, recreation, competition or all three. Aughintober Pipe Band is a pipe band from Castlecaulfield in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. History The band was originally a flute ensemble, but changed to a pipe band in 1949. Grampian Police Pipe Band
Grampian Police Pipe Band is a Grade 2 pipe band associated with Grampian Police. History The band was formed as Aberdeen City Police Pipe Band in 1907, wearing the Hunting Gordon tartan. In 1965 a new uniform was introduced with the Black Stewart tartan. The merger of police forces in the north of Scotland to create Grampian police resulted in the present name of the band being adopted. Th band was promoted to Grade 1 for the start of the 1995 season, until it moved back to Grade 2 in 2005. For the 2012 season, the band returned to Grade 1, having changed both its pipe major and drum sergeant. It placed 16th overall in the 2012 World Pipe Band Championships. Denny, Falkirk
Denny ( gd, Deanaidh) is a town in the Falkirk council area of Scotland. Historically in Stirlingshire, it is situated west of Falkirk, and northeast of Cumbernauld, adjacent to both the M80 and M876 motorways. At the 2011 census, Denny had a resident population of 8,300. History Denny is separated from neighbouring village Dunipace by the River Carron. A stone bridge was built over the river in 1825. Denny Town House was completed in 1931. Until the early 1980s, Denny was a centre for heavy industry, including several iron foundries, brickworks, a coal mine and paper mills. Denny and Dunipace Pipe Band is a Grade 3A pipe band based in Denny, near Falkirk, Scotland. History The band was established in 1964 by Captain John Deuchar and Roy Smith, who was the first Pipe Major. The band has competed at every level within the contest structure of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, reaching Grade 1 in 1989 and 2012. David Clunie was appointed Pipe Major of Denny & Dunipace in 2010 alongside Arthur Cook as Lead Drummer. Following some Grade 2 success in 2011 and 2012, including European, World and Cowal Championships in 2012, the band was promoted to Grade 1 for the 2013 season. The organisation now has one band now in Grade 3A, led by Pipe Major Craig Whyte and Lead Drummer Bruce Smith. West Lothian ( sco, Wast Lowden; gd, Lodainn an Iar) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland, and was one of its shires of Scotland, historic counties. The county was called Linlithgowshire until 1925. The historic county was bounded geographically by the River Avon, Falkirk, Avon to the west and the River Almond, Lothian, Almond to the east. The Peoples Ford Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band is a pipe band from West Lothian, Scotland which formed in 1972. The band has competed in Grade 1 since being promoted to that level in 1980. Throughout its competitive history, the band has not won the World Pipe Band Championships, though it has been runner up four times and has won the drum corps prize 6 times to date under Tom Brown MBE and his son Gordon Brown. History In 1972, a few townspeople of Boghall in West Lothian decided that they would try to form a pipe band. An advertisement was put in the local newspaper for young people wanting to learn the pipes or drums, and a group of primarily young players began practising at a Bathgate school. The Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming is a British Army training establishment that provides instruction on Scottish pipe band music to military pipers and drummers. History Founded in 1910 as the Army School of Piping (later renamed the Army School of Bagpipe Music), the School was formerly located at Edinburgh Castle but is now located at Inchdrewer House near Redford Barracks in Edinburgh, Scotland and is administered by the Infantry Training Centre, it is also affiliated with the Royal Corps of Army Music. Generally regarded as the smallest unit in the British Army, the School is now commanded by a Director who is a qualified army Pipe Major and who usually holds the rank of Captain or Major (usually being commissioned from Warrant Officer rank on appointment).
