Cuba ( , ), officially the Republic of Cuba ( es, República de Cuba, links=no ), is an island country comprising the island of Cuba, as well as Isla de la Juventud and several minor archipelagos. Dora Alonso
Dora Alonso (born Doralina de la Caridad Alonso-Perez on December 22, 1910, in Maximo Gomez, Matanzas, Cuba – March 21, 2001, in Cuba) was a Cuban journalist and writer who worked in both print and radio. She wrote novels, short stories, poetry, theater and children's literature. She was also a radio and television script writer and a war correspondent. Biography Dora Alonso was born in Máximo Gómez, Matanzas, Cuba on December 22, 1910, to Adela Pérez de Corcho Rodríguez and David Alonso Fernández. Her first poem, "Amor", appeared in the newspaper ''El Mundo''. In 1933 she became a correspondent of the newspaper ''Prensa Libre'' (''Free Press''). She joined the anti-imperialist organization ''Joven Cuba'' in 1934 and met Constantino Barredo Guerra, with whom she had a relationship (including joint revolutionary activities) until 1938. Manuel José Arce y Fagoaga (1 January 1787 – 14 December 1847) was a decorated salvadoran General and president of the Federal Republic of Central America from 1825 to 1829, followed by Francisco Morazán. Background Manuel José Arce was the son of Spaniard Bernardo José de Arce, the Colonial Intendant of the Intendancy of San Salvador from 1800 until 1801, and Antonia Fagoaga. He was born in the Intendancy of San Salvador, what is now El Salvador. In 1801 he was sent to Guatemala to continue his education. There he graduated in philosophy from the Colegio de San Francisco Borja. Amadeo ( it, Amedeo , sometimes latinized as Amadeus; full name: ''Amedeo Ferdinando Maria di Savoia''; 30 May 184518 January 1890) was an Italian prince who reigned as King of Spain from 1870 to 1873. The first and only King of Spain to come from the House of Savoy, he was the second son of Victor Emmanuel II of Italy and was known for most of his life as the Duke of Aosta, the usual title for a second son in the Savoyard dynasty. Santiago Álvarez Román (March 18, 1919 – May 20, 1998) was a Cuban filmmaker. He wrote and directed many documentaries about Cuban and American culture. His "nervous montage" technique of using "found materials," such as Hollywood movie clips, cartoons, and photographs, is considered a precursor to the modern video clip. Biography He studied in the United States but in the mid-1940s returned to Cuba, where he worked as a music archivist in a television station and participated in Communist Party activities. After the Cuban Revolution he became a founding member of the Cuban Film Institute ( ICAIC) and directed its weekly ''Latin American Newsreel''.
