Sherbrooke
Sherbrooke ( ; ) is a city in southern Quebec, Canada. It is at the confluence of the Saint-François and Magog rivers in the heart of the Estrie administrative region. Sherbrooke is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Sherbrooke. With 172,950 residents at the Canada 2021 Census, It is the sixth largest city in the province and the 30th largest in Canada. Serge Cardin (born July 2, 1950) is a Quebec politician. He was a Parti Québécois member of the National Assembly of Quebec for the Sherbrooke electoral district from 2012 to 2014, and was formerly a Bloc Québécois Member of Parliament for the federal riding of Sherbrooke from 1998 to 2011. In the 2011 Canadian federal election, he lost his seat to Pierre-Luc Dusseault, then a 19-year-old university student and the youngest MP ever elected in Canadian history. Alexis Bwenge (born October 19, 1981) is a former fullback. He most recently played for the Canadian Football League's BC Lions. Bwenge was drafted by the Lions (1st round, 8th overall) in the 2005 CFL Draft. Bwenge first signed with the Lions in May 2006 and he had one four-yard touchdown reception in the 2006 CFL season. Samuel Brooks (Canadian Politician)
Samuel Brooks (c. 1793 – March 22, 1849) was an American-born merchant and political figure in Lower Canada. He was born in Haverhill, New Hampshire, the son of merchant Samuel Brooks. He set up business in Newbury, Vermont. He married Elizabeth Towle in 1813. Around 1820, he moved to Stanstead in Lower Canada, later moving to Lennoxville. He was a merchant there and also provided loans, raised livestock and acted as agent for the British American Land Company in the Eastern Townships. He later was a bank manager at Sherbrooke and president of the Stanstead and Sherbrooke Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Brooks was also involved in the development of railroads in the region with Alexander Tilloch Galt. He served in the local militia and as justice of the peace. Brooks was elected to represent Sherbrooke in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada in 1829 and was reelected in 1830. He was forced to resign in 1831 because he was not a British subject. Edward Towle Brooks
Edward Towle Brooks, (July 6, 1830 – August 5, 1897) was a Canadian lawyer, judge, and political figure. He represented Town of Sherbrooke in the House of Commons of Canada from 1872 to 1882 as a Conservative member. He was born in Lennoxville, Lower Canada, the son of Samuel Brooks and Elizabeth Towle. Brooks was educated at Dartmouth College, studied law with John Sewell Sanborn and was called to the bar in 1854. In 1856, he married Sarah Louise Clarke. Brooks was named Crown Prosecutor for St. Francis district in 1862. He was named Queen's Counsel in 1875. He was elected battonier for the St. Francis bar. Brooks was a trustee for Bishop's College School in Lennoxville. In 1882, he was named puisne judge in the Quebec Superior Court. Brooks retired from the bench in 1895 due to poor health. Stéphane Brochu
Stéphane Brochu (born August 15, 1967) is a Canadian former ice hockey defenceman. Biography Brochu was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec. As a youth, he played in the 1979 and 1980 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from Sherbrooke. Brochu was drafted 175th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Quebec Remparts. He played three further seasons in the league for the Saint-Jean Castors before turning pro in the International Hockey League for the Colorado Rangers who later became the Denver Rangers. During the 1988-89 season, Brochu was called up for one game for the New York Rangers. This turned out to be Brochu's only NHL game. After five games with the Flint Spirits, Brochu spent two seasons with the Fort Wayne Komets before returning to Flint in 1991 to suit up for the Flint Bulldogs of the Colonial Hockey League. Kim Boutin (; born December 16, 1994) is a Canadian short track speed skater. Boutin won silver in the 1,000 m and bronze in the 500 m and 1,500 m events at the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeonchang, Korea. She was the first Canadian female short track speed skater to win three individual Olympic medals in a single Olympics and the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic medal in the 1,500 m. As a result of her three medal performance she was named the flag bearer for Canada at the closing ceremonies for the 2018 Winter Olympics. John Samuel Bourque
John Samuel Bourque (September 8, 1894 – March 5, 1974) was a Quebec politician, Cabinet Minister, military member and businessman. He was the Member of Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Sherbrooke for 25 years. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Bourque studied at the Petit Séminaire de Saint-Charles-Borromée in Sherbrooke, before being enrolled in the 22nd (French Canadian) Battalion, CEF, as a soldier and sergeant where he participated in World War I in the United Kingdom. He was also a colonel, sergeant, major and lieutenant-colonel for the Sherbrooke Fusilliers. He retired from the military service in 1943. While being in military duties, he was also a businessman running a lumber store.
