List Of Old Growth Forests
This is a list of existing old-growth (including "virgin") forests, or remnants of forest, of at least . ecoregion information from "Terrestrial Ecoregions of the World". (NB: The terms "old growth" and "virgin" may have various definitions and meanings throughout the world. See old-growth forest for more information.) Africa Australia In Australia, the 1992 '' National Forest Policy Statement'' (NFPS) made specific provision for the protection of old growth forests. The NFPS initiated a process for undertaking assessments of forests for conservation values, including old growth values. A working group of state and Australian Government agencies took the NFPS definition into consideration in developing a definition that was accepted by all governments (JANIS 1997). In 2008, only a relatively small area (15%) of Australia's forests (mostly tall, wet forests) had been assessed for old-growth values. Of the of forest in Australia assessed for their old-growth status, ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

It includes the List of superlative trees#Largest, largest and tallest trees in the world. Description The three redwood subfamily genus, genera are ''Sequoia (genus), Sequoia'' from coastal California and Oregon, ''Sequoiadendron'' from California's Sierra Nevada, and ''Metasequoia'' in China. The redwood species contains the largest and tallest trees in the world. These trees can live for thousands of years. Threats include logging, fire suppression, climate change, illegal marijuana cultivation, and burl poaching. Only two of the genera, ''Sequoia'' and ''Sequoiadendron'', are known for massive trees. Trees of ''Metasequoia'', from the single living species ''Metasequoia glyptostroboides'', are much smaller. Taxonomy and evolution Multiple studies of both morphological and molecular characters have strongly supported the assertion tha ... Forest Products Commission
The Forest Products Commission (FPC) is a Western Australian Government trading enterprise established under an Act of Parliament, responsible for the development and marketing of the state's renewable timber resources. The agency was established as part of the then- Court Government's response to the debate regarding logging in old-growth forests. The minister responsible for the agency is the Minister for Forestry, currently Dave Kelly of the Labor Party. Prior to the establishment of the commission, commercial logging and harvesting, as well as sharefarming, was undertaken by the then-Department of Conservation and Land Management. Its creation meant the conservation and commercial interests of the state, in respect of forestry, were separated and therefore removed a perceived conflict of interest. As part of its operations, the Forest Products Commission operates a commercial nursery and seed technologies facility at West Manjimup. The commission undertakes its operatio ... Subtropical
The subtropical zones or subtropics are geographical zone, geographical and Köppen climate classification, climate zones to the Northern Hemisphere, north and Southern Hemisphere, south of the tropics. Geographically part of the Geographical zone#Temperate zones, temperate zones of both hemispheres, they cover the middle latitudes from to approximately 35° north and south. The horse latitudes lie within this range. Subtropical climates are often characterized by hot summers and mild winters with infrequent frost. Most subtropical climates fall into two basic types: humid subtropical climate, humid subtropical (Köppen climate classification, Koppen climate Cfa), where rainfall is often concentrated in the warmest months, for example list of regions of China, Southeast China and the Southeastern United States, and Mediterranean climate, dry summer or Mediterranean climate (Köppen climate classification, Koppen climate Csa/Csb), where seasonal rainfall is concentrated in the c ... Eastern Australian Temperate Forests
The Eastern Australian temperate forests is a broad ecoregion of open forest on Highland, uplands (typically on the Great Dividing Range) starting from the east coast of New South Wales in the South Coast (New South Wales), South Coast to southern Queensland, Australia. Although dry sclerophyll and wet sclerophyll eucalyptus forests predominate within this ecoregion, a number of distinguishable rainforest communities are present as well. Many systematic National and State Parks are distributed throughout New South Wales and Queensland, although the representation of habitats varies throughout the ecoregion. In some areas, eucalyptus woodlands and dry forests have been cleared for urban development or to enhance grazing. Before Europeans first arrived to Australia, the Border Ranges National Park, Border Ranges had one of the largest rainforests in Australia. Geography This ecoregion covers an area between Australia's east coast and the Great Dividing Range, starting just above ... Barrington Tops National Park
The Barrington Tops National Park is a protected national park located in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, Australia. Gazetted in 1969, the park is situated between Scone, Singleton, Dungog, Gloucester and East Gresford. The park is part of the Barrington Tops group World Heritage Site Gondwana Rainforests of Australia inscribed in 1986 and added to the Australian National Heritage List in 2007. It is also part of the Barrington Tops and Gloucester Tops Important Bird Area. Environment Geology Barrington Tops is part of the Mount Royal Range, a spur of the Great Dividing Range. Barrington Tops is a plateau between two of the large peaks in the range. The park is believed to be an extinct volcano and the mountain ranges are made up of a mixture of sedimentary rocks with a granite top. Erosion has weathered the granite and rounded granite boulders can be seen in some areas of the park. Estimates put the age of the rock at 300 to 400 million years, well before Australia sep ...
