Pomatiidae
The family Pomatiidae is a taxonomic family of small operculate land snails, terrestrial gastropod mollusks that can be found over the warmer parts of the Old World. In the older literature, this family is designated as Pomatiasidae. This family is a lineage closely related to the Littorinidae (periwinkles) common in coastal habitat. They have adapted to terrestrial life and are thus sometimes called "land winkles". They are defined by a chalky operculum at the rear end of the body, the shape of their thick shell and their mouth and a characteristic spiral sculpture. The sexes are separate and can sometimes be recognised because the female shell is slightly larger than the male shell. Taxonomy According to the Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005), the family Pomatiidae consisted of two subfamilies: *subfamily Pomatiinae Newton, 1891 (1828) - synonyms: Cyclostomatidae Menke, 1828; Cyclotopsinae Kobelt & Möllendorff, 1898; Ericiidae Wenz, 1915 *subfamily Annular ...

Orculella Ruderalis
''Orculella'' is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Orculidae. The genus ''Orculella'' occurs in the whole Mediterranean region. The richest areas in terms of species are Turkey and the Middle East, the Aegean Islands (mainly Crete) and Libya (Cyrenaica). A few species inhabit Southern Spain ( ''O. bulgarica''), Sicily ( ''O. templorum'') and northeastern Africa ( ''O. tingitana''). Species in the genera ''Schileykula'' and ''Orculella'' are indistinguishable based on shell characters only. They differ however in the genitalia, primarily in the presence (''Orculella'') or absence (''Schileykula'') of a penial appendix. Species and subspecies Species and subspecies in the genus ''Orculella'' include: * '' Orculella astirakiensis'' Gittenberger & Hausdorf 2004 * '' Orculella brandti'' (Zilch 1960)Zilch, A. (1960). Oxyloma Elegans
''Oxyloma elegans'' is a species of small European land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk belonging to the family Succineidae, the amber snails. Description The shell usually has fewer than 3 whorls. The body whorl is very large and the spire is short. The shell is yellowish amber coloured with irregular radial growth lines. The width of the shell is 6–8 mm. The height of the shell is 9–17 mm (up to 20 mm). Genitalia differences separate ''Oxyloma elegans'' from ''Oxyloma sarsii'' and the genus '' Succinea''. The epiphallus is slightly curved and inside a short penis prolongation distance between penis and the pedunculus is very short.Species summary for ''Oxyloma elegans''

Description The shell is c. 8 mm in height and up 4.5 mm wide. It has 3 to 3½ strongly arched whorls which are set off from each other by a deep suture. The last whorl is highly inflated, the aperture height occupying about half of the total height. The shell is dextral and relatively thick-walled. The shell is opaque, the surface is matte. The colour is amber on the coast, inland it is rather pale yellowish grey to greenish white in colour. The surface is rough and bears somewhat irregular growth bands. Often the surface layer is camouflaged with dirt or dro ...

They usually live in damp habitats such as marshes. Succineidae is the only family in the superfamily Succineoidea. The soft parts of the animal appear to be too large for the shell.Janus, Horst, 1965. ‘’The young specialist looks at land and freshwater molluscs’’, Burke, London Anatomy In this family, the number of haploid chromosomes varies greatly. Carychium Minimum
''Carychium minimum'' is a species of very small air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Ellobiidae. Description The width of the shell is 0.9-1.1 mm. The height of the shell is 1.6-2.2 mm. It is wider than the shell of ''Carychium tridentatum'' which it closely resembles. As in ''C. tridentatum'' shell is dull white and cylindrical and the mouth is oval with two denticles and a thickened lip. However if the last whorl above the aperture is opened this shows the plica parietalis (a spiral ridge on the parietal region projecting into the interior of the shell) descending in a simple way downwards.Welter-Schultes F.
