Nepal
Nepal (; ne, नेपाल ), formerly the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal ( ne, सङ्घीय लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्र नेपाल ), is a landlocked country in South Asia. Abhi Subedi
Abhi Subedi ( ne, अभि सुवेदी) is a Nepali poet, playwright, linguist, columnist, translator and critic, who writes in Nepali and English. Biography Abhi Subedi was born in Sabla village of Tehrathum district in eastern Nepal. He was the 21st child of his father and the 7th child of his mother. He recognized Bengali letters before Devnagari scripts after seeing his mother read Bengali epic Kashiram Das's Mahabharata. Education Abhi Subedi was offered a British Council scholarship to the University of Edinburgh in 1978 and completed his post-graduate degree. He wrote about his struggle for education viz a viz the Thatcher government's cut on foreign scholarships and grants and the bureaucratic malice of his university back home. He earned a Ph.D on the pragmatics of poetry from Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur and did postgraduate work in stylistics and applied linguistics at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Bhanubhakta Acharya
Bhanubhakta Acharya () (1814—1868 CE) (1871—1925 BS) was a Nepali writer, poet, and translator. He is widely regarded as the first poet in the Nepali language, for which he was conferred with the title of "Aadikabi": literally, "the first poet". He is best known for translating the epic ''Ramayana'' from Sanskrit to Nepali for the first time. Initially, his translation of the Ramayana was popular in oral form. It was later compiled and published by Motirām Bhatta in the late 19th century as ''Bhanubhakta Ramayana''. Early life and education Bhanubhakta Acharya was born on 13 July 1814 (29 Ashadh 1871 BS) in the village of Chundi Ramgha, Tanahun District, Nepal to Dhananjaya Acharya, and Dharmawati Acharya. His father Dhananjaya Acharya was a government official and was the eldest of all brothers. Kshetra Pratap Adhikary ( ne, क्षेत्रप्रताप अधिकारी; 1943 (March/April) – 14 April 2014) was a Nepali poet, writer and lyricist. Adhikari is best known as the lyricist of the song Ma Ta Laligurans Bhayechu by Narayan Gopal. Manjushree Thapa
Manjushree Thapa (born 1968 in Kathmandu) is a Nepalese–born Canadian essayist, fiction writer, translator and editor. She is one of the first English writer of Nepali descent to be published internationally. '' Forget Kathmandu'' and '' The Tutor of History'' are some of her most well known works. Biography Thapa grew up in Nepal, Canada and the United States. She began to write upon completing her BFA in photography at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her first book was ''Mustang Bhot in Fragments'' (1992). In 2001 she published the novel '' The Tutor of History'', which she had begun as her MFA thesis in the creative writing program at the University of Washington in Seattle, which she attended as a Fulbright scholar. Her best known book is ''Forget Kathmandu: An Elegy for Democracy'' (2005), published just weeks before the royal coup in Nepal on 1 February 2005. Suman Pokhrel
Suman Pokhrel ( ne, सुमन पोखरेल; born on September 21, 1967) is a Nepali poet, lyricist, playwright, translator and artist. Universities in Nepal and India have included his poetry in their syllabus. Suman Pokhrel is the sole writer to receive the SAARC Literary Award twice.Hindustan Times, New Delhi, Saturday, February 14, 2015 He received this award in 2013 and 2015 for his own poetry and his contributions to poetry and art in general in the South Asian region. Early life Suman Pokhrel was born on September 21, 1967 in Mills Area, Biratnagar, to Mukunda Prasad Pokhrel and Bhakta Devi Pokhrel. Yuyutsu Sharma
Yuyutsu Ram Dass Sharma ( ne, युयुत्सु शर्मा; born January 5, 1960) is a Nepalese-Indian poet and journalist. He was born at Nakodar, Punjab and moved to Nepal at an early age. He writes in English and Nepali. Life and career Sharma received his early education first at DAV College, Nakodar, Punjab, and later at Baring Union Christian College, Batala and University of Rajasthan. While at Rajasthan, Sharma met American poet David Ray while assisting Ray on an issue of ''New Letters''. Ray introduced Sharma to the work of prominent American poets such as William Carlos Williams and Allen Ginsberg, and encouraged Sharma to publish his own work. Sharma has called meeting Ray a "watershed" moment in his life. Yuyutsu remained active in the literary circles of Rajasthan and acted in plays by Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht, Harold Pinter, and Edward Albee.
