This is a list of neighborhoods in the metropolitan city of Kathmandu, the capital and the largest municipality of Nepal. The 2011 census placed its population at about 975,000. Kathmandu is composed of neighborhoods, which are utilised quite extensively and more familiar among locals. However, administratively the city is divided into 35 wards, numbered from 1 to 35. Baluwatar, Kathmandu
Baluwatar ( ne, बालुवाटार) (also Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward 04) is a residential area of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal on the banks of Bagmati River. It is just 15 minutes away from what is known as the downtown of Kathmandu, New Road and Ason and shares borders with Lazimpat and Gairidhara. Baneshwor ( ne, बानेश्वर) is the largest residential area of Kathmandu, Nepal. The area is composed of New-Baneshwor, Mid-Baneshwor, and Old-Baneshwor, Baneshwor Height, Minbhawan, Shankhamul, Bhimsengola and Thapa Gaun.. Chabahil
Chabahil ( ne, चाबहिल) (also Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward 07) is an ancient neighborhood in northeast Kathmandu in Nepal. It is famous for its Licchavi stupa, called the Dhando Chaitya, considered by many historians to be the oldest Buddhist Stupa in the valley. Currently, Chabahil has become a thriving residential and commercial area of Kathmandu. Two of the most important temples in Kathmandu, Pashupatinath and Guhyeswari are situated very close to Chabahil. Lazimpat
Lazimpat ( ne, लाजिम्पाट) is a residential area of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. It is close to the Narayanhity Palace, and is well known in Kathmandu for its hotels, restaurants, schools, colleges, embassies and department stores. The neighborhood's name derives from Lazimpat Durbar, that lies in its vicinity and was converted into Hotel Shanker. Lazimpat shares one border with Thamel, a popular tourist hub, and another with Baluwatar, a reputed residential area where the Prime Minister, Chief Justice, and the Chairman of Constitution Assembly reside. Swayambhu (Devanagari: स्वयम्भू स्तूप; new, स्वयंभू; sometimes Swayambu or Swoyambhu) is an ancient religious complex atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city.
