Namibia
Namibia (, ), officially the Republic of Namibia, is a country in Southern Africa. Its western border is the Atlantic Ocean. It shares land borders with Zambia and Angola to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to the south and east. Although Kazungula, it does not border Zimbabwe, less than 200 metres (660 feet) of the Botswanan right bank of the Zambezi, Zambezi River separates the two countries. Namibia gained independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990, following the Namibian War of Independence. Its capital and largest city is Windhoek. Richard Pakleppa
Richard Pakleppa (born 1961) is a white Namibian screenwriter, film director and film producer. Pakleppa studied philosophy and theatre in Munich, Germany and gained a Honours Degree in African studies from the University of Cape Town. New Era (Namibia)
The ''New Era'' is a daily national newspaper owned by the government of Namibia. The newspaper is one of four daily national newspapers in the country, the others being ''The Namibian'' (English and Oshiwambo), ''Die Republikein'' (Afrikaans) and '' Allgemeine Zeitung'' (German). ''New Era'' was created by the ''New Era Publications Corporation Act of 1992''. According to Ullamaija Kivikuru, it copied the format of ''The Namibian'' in order to establish credibility. The two newspapers still resemble each other in having long stories spread over several pages. Sally Boss Madam
Sally Ephraim Keya, commonly known as Sally Boss Madam, (born 13 May 1986), is a Namibian Afro-fusion singer and performer. She gained fame after the release of her single 'Boss Madam' in the year 2012 which earned her an award at the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs). She has released several albums 'Courage' 2012 with 16 songs and'I am Mukwanekamba.' In 2017 she released another album My Black. The album has 15 songs. "My Black is a celebration of black women. Beate Baumgartner
Beate Baumgartner (born 9 May 1983), also known as "Yola B", is an Austrian-Namibian singer. She was born in Windhoek, South-West Africa (now Namibia), and gained her initial fame by participating in the talent show '' Starmania'' in 2002–3. She subsequently joined Parov Stelar's electro-swing band, which formed in 2005. From 2008 to 2009 she sang with another electro-rock Band, Monilla, and is featured on their 2008 album, ''Hello World – Chapter 1''. In 2015 she joined Romany band DelaDap. The daughter of an Austrian father and a Namibian mother, she attended the German Higher Private School Windhoek, where she began acting and singing. Atushe
Atushe (born John Namweya, 26 August 1976, Tsumeb, Namibia) is a Namibian musician, based in Windhoek, Namibia. With a career spanning nine years, he has produced numerous hits and five albums to date. Atushe started singing at an early age in a family choir, Sunday school then later on in a school choir. Atushe won a best body builder title in 2010. Nǃxau ǂToma
Nǃxau ǂToma (short: Nǃxau, alternative spelling Gcao Tekene Çoma or Coma; 1944 – 5 July 2003) was a Namibian San people, bush farmer and actor who starred in the 1980 film ''The Gods Must Be Crazy'' and its sequels, in which he played the Kalahari Desert, Kalahari San people, Bushman Xixo. ''The Namibian'' called him "Namibia's most famous actor". Biography Nǃxau was a member of the San people, San, also known as Bushmen. He spoke Juǀʼhoan language, Juǀʼhoan, Otjiherero language, Otjiherero and Tswana language, Tswana fluently, as well as some Afrikaans. He did not know his own exact age, and before his appearance in the films he had little experience beyond his home. Christi Warner
Christi Warner is a British Namibian-born R&B singer, songwriter, poet, theatre for development practitioner and freelance journalist for the New Era ArtLife. Career Warner is probably best known for her role as television presenter "Lady Makhosa" on ''Soul Makhosa'', a Namibian music video show broadcast on NBC television in 2003. Early on in her music career she teamed up with Bolie Mootseng, T.C. (member of the Kalaharians) and Stoopie to collaborate on the song "On a Sunday Afternoon". Although her vocals can be heard throughout the song, she and the other collaborators were not credited. The only artist recognised for the hit song was Boli Mootseng. It was only in 2001, when she became a group member and producer of the R&B group X-Plode featuring members Jaicee James and Lizell Swartz, that she became known in the Namibian music industry. Sylvia Schlettwein (born 16 November 1975) is a Namibian writer, teacher, translator and literary critic. She was the Head of the Department for Languages and Communication at the International University of Management in the capital Windhoek. Mvula Ya Nangolo
Mvula ya Nangolo (9 August 1943 – 25 April 2019) was a Namibian journalist and poet. He was born in Oniimwandi on 9 August 1943 and grew up in Lüderitz and later Windhoek. He joined the independence movement SWAPO at the age of 18 and later moved to Germany on a journalism scholarship. He was the first editor of Namibia Today and worked as a Special Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. Dorian Haarhoff (born 1944) is a South African-Namibian writer and poet. Haarhoff was born in 1944 in Kimberley, Northern Cape, then part of the Cape Province. He is a naturalized citizen of Namibia.
