The Letlhakane mine is a planned large uranium mine located in the eastern part of Botswana in Central District. Letlhakane represents one of the largest uranium reserves in Botswana having estimated reserves of 1.04 billion tonnes of ore grading 0.015% uranium. The mine is owned by the Australia-based ''A-Cap Energy Limited'', which received a mining license in 2016, but currently has the planned development of the mine on hold. Morupule Colliery
The Morupule Colliery is a coal mine located in Palapye, Botswana, owned and operated by Debswana, a partnership between the government of Botswana and De Beers. The coalfield is composed of four main seams, only one of which, the No. 1 Seam, is currently being mined, using bord and pillar mining methods methods. Founded in 1971 to supply the Bamangwato Concessions Ltd copper and nickel mine, operations have expanded considerably since then to supply regional power plants and industries, especially the nearby Morupule Power Station. Morupule was granted an extension to its mining lease in 1980. Mmamabula
Mmamabula is a planned coal mine and coal-fired power station to the east of the main road and rail corridor in Botswana between Gaborone and Francistown and south of the Serorome River. The power station would be near to the village of Mmaphashalala. It is about north of the capital city of Gaborone. Coalfield The Mmamabula coalfield is considered to be a western extension of the Waterberg Coalfield in the Ellisras Basin in South Africa, to the east, which contains about 40% of South Africa's coal resources. Phoenix Nickel Mine
The Phoenix mine is a large mine in the west of Botswana in the North-East District. Phoenix represents one of the largest nickel reserve in Botswana having estimated reserves of 329.7 million tonnes of ore grading 0.23% nickel. The 329.7 million tonnes of ore contains 0.78 million tonnes of nickel metal. ''Francistown Mining and Exploration Ltd'' was founded in 1985 to develop Phoenix mine and the nearby Selkirk mine. ''Tati Nickel Mining Company (Pty) Ltd'' was founded in 1988. Phoenix was opened in 1995. ''Tati Nickel Mining Company (Pty) Ltd'' was owned for some time by Norilsk Nickel (85%) and the Government of Botswana (15%). Norilsk agreed to sell its 85% stake to BCL Limited around 2016, but BCL went into liquidation around this time, leading to a legal disagreements between the companies. Orapa Diamond Mine
The Orapa diamond mine is the world's largest diamond mine by area. The mine is located in Orapa, a town in the Central District of Botswana about west of the city of Francistown. Orapa ("resting place for lions") is owned by Debswana, a partnership between the De Beers company and the government of Botswana. The mine was discovered on 1 March 1967, a year after Botswana's independence, by a team of De Beers geologists, including Manfred Marx, Jim Gibson and led by Dr. Gavin Lamont. It is the oldest of four mines operated by the company, and began operations in July 1971 and its first production was 1,438,168 carats.
