List Of Melbourne Railway Stations
This is a list of the 222 suburban railway stations currently operating in Melbourne, Victoria. The Melbourne railway network consists of 17 railway lines, as well as the central City Loop. There are also a further 19 stations on three heritage, volunteer-operated, tourist railways, which are not a part of the suburban network. Stations are broken up into two Myki ticketing zones (some stations are in the overlap between the two zones, where tickets for either zone may be used). On 4 March 2007, zone 3 was abolished by being incorporated into zone 2. Bittern Railway Station
Bittern railway station is located on the Stony Point line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the town of Bittern, and it opened on 17 December 1889. History Bittern station opened on 17 December 1889, when the line from Hastings was extended to Stony Point. Like the town itself, the station was named after the bird family of the same name. Between 1921 and 1953, Bittern was the junction station for a branch line to Red Hill. On 22 June 1981, the passenger service between Frankston and Stony Point was withdrawn and replaced with a bus service, with the line between Long Island Junction and Stony Point also closing on the same day. On 16 September 1984, promotional trips for the reopening of the line began and, on 27 September of that year, the passenger service was reinstated. Berwick Railway Station, Melbourne
Berwick railway station is located on the Pakenham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Berwick, and it opened on 8 October 1877. History Berwick station opened on 8 October 1877, when the line from Dandenong was extended to Pakenham. Like the suburb itself, the station was named after Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, the birthplace of Robert Gardiner, who was an early leaseholder in the area. In 1956, the line between Berwick and Officer was duplicated, with a signal panel also installed. In 1962, duplication occurred between Berwick and Narre Warren. On 12 October 1982, at around 11:15am, Hitachi carriage 137M, leading a Dandenong – Pakenham shuttle service, collided with a semi-trailer at the former Clyde Road level crossing, which was located nearby in the Up direction of the station. Bentleigh Railway Station
Bentleigh railway station is located on the Frankston line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Bentleigh, and it opened on 19 December 1881 as East Brighton. It was renamed Bentleigh on 1 May 1907. History Bentleigh station opened on 19 December 1881, when the line from Caulfield was extended to Mordialloc. Like the suburb itself, the station was named after Thomas Bent, former Premier of Victoria between 1904-1909. A goods siding once existed at the station. It closed in 1922, and it and the connections to the siding were removed in that same year. In 1944, a crossover at the Down end of the station was abolished. Beaconsfield railway station is located on the Pakenham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Beaconsfield, and it opened on 1 December 1879. History Beaconsfield station opened on 1 December 1879, just over two years after the line from Dandenong was extended to Pakenham. The station gets its name from statesman Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield, who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom between 1874–1880. In 1967, the goods siding was closed to traffic, and was removed later in that same year. In 1976, flashing light signals were provided at the nearby Station/Goff Street level crossing, located nearby in the Down direction of the station, with boom barriers provided later on in 1986.
