An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Boris Miletić
Boris Miletić (; born 2 September 1975) is a Croatian economist and politician who has been List of prefects of Istria County, prefect of Istria County since 2021 and president of the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) from 2014 to 2021. Miletić did his undergraduate studies at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Pula Faculty of Economics and Tourism "Dr. Mijo Mirković" in 1999, and would return to get his master's degree in 2002. He has also pursued further education at the Cleveland State University as well as the Faculty of Economics in Split, Croatia, Split and Zagreb. From 2000 to 2006 Miletić served in various civil service positions in Istria County, including an internship with the Department for the Economy (2000–2001) and with the Istrian Development Agency (2001–2006), where he would eventually become CEO. Valter Drandić
Valter Drandić (born August 7, 1956) is a Croatian politician, member of the Istria County Assembly and a member of the European Committee of the Regions. He was in the Sabor for two terms from February 2000 to December 2003 and from December 2003 to January 2008. He graduated from technical school and studied economics and tourism in University of Rijeka. He passed the professional exams for the expert associate for informatics and for the organizer of automatic data processing at the Republic Committee for Science, Technology and Informatics in Zagreb. He was elected a member of the Istrian County Assembly six times (1993, 1997, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2021), and in 2013 and 2017 he was elected President of the Assembly. Igor Štoković
Igor Štoković (December 16, 1959 – April 9, 2015) was a Croatian economist, musician and politician. Štoković was born in Pula, on December 16, 1959. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Rijeka, and obtained his doctorate in 1990 at the same faculty. During the Croatian War of Independence, he contributed to the maintenance of peace and order in Pula when the latter was occupied by the JNA, preventing the destruction of the city, which the JNA threatened on a daily basis. He was, with Radovan Juričić, part of the team led by Luciano Delbianco that conducted the uneasy negotiations with the JNA commanders, which led to the relatively peaceful retreat of the Yugoslav Army from Pula on December 16, 1991. Istrian Democratic Assembly
The Istrian Democratic Assembly ( hr, Istarski demokratski sabor, it, Dieta democratica istriana or IDS-DDI) is a centre to centre-left, regionalist, liberal political party in Croatia primarily operating in Istria County. IDS was founded on the 14 February 1990 by the writer Ivan Pauletta. The following is a list of all 422 of the Chief Executives of Pula ordered by the dates of their mayoral terms which are put in parentheses. Pula has a complex history, as the city was governed by different countries with different forms of government in different epochs. In classical antiquity, Pula was inhabited by the Histri, a Venetic or Illyrian tribe. It was conquered by the Romans in 177 BC, whereafter followed a period of Romanization. The town was elevated to colonial rank between 46 and 45 BC as the tenth region of the Roman Republic, under Julius Caesar.
