Garden City, Georgia was incorporated on February 8, 1939. It operates under a council-administrator form of government. By 2011, its city council will be composed of one mayor and five city council members. Each of the councillors will represent a different section of town. The current mayor is Tennyson Holder. Re-elected to the city council in 2009, he was appointed by his colleagues to serve the remainder the Anthony "Andy" Quinney's unexpired mayoral term. As of 2010, Garden City has never collected property taxes. Garden City is a city in Chatham County, Georgia, United States, located just northwest of Savannah. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 10,289. Part industrial and part residential, the city is home to much of the heavy industry in Chatham County. It hosts the largest and busiest ocean terminal of the Port of Savannah, the flagship operation of the Georgia Ports Authority. Garden City was created in 1939 as Industrial City Gardens, a community intended to house the large workforce required by the new factories and chemical plants just west of downtown Savannah. Jimmy DeLoach Parkway
Jimmy DeLoach Parkway is a parkway in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located a few miles northwest of the main part of Savannah. The parkway has a concurrency with SR 17. It is a road that links US 80/ SR 17 Conn./ SR 26 in Bloomingdale with SR 21 Alt./ SR 21/ SR 30 in Port Wentworth. It also has an interchange with Interstate 95 (I-95). It was named after Jimmy DeLoach, former mayor of Garden City and Chatham County commissioner for District 7. In 2016, an extension and renovation project of the parkway was proposed, and construction started in 2016 and finished in late 2022. The construction has extended the parkway into Bloomingdale Road and I-16, and the at-grade intersection with US 80 has been converted into a full diamond interchange.
