Sonny Dixon
Sonny Dixon retired in May 2015 as lead anchor of ''THE News at 5 & 6'' and "WTOC PRIME" on WTOC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Savannah, Georgia, USA. He succeeded Doug Weathers, following Weathers' retirement in 2001. Dixon is the only Savannah anchor to win the Best Anchor Emmy Award. He has also won numerous AP Awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award. Dixon was selected as Savannah's Favorite Media Personality 14 years in a row by readers of ''Savannah Magazine''. He has earned a similar title for many years from the readers of Connect Savannah. Mr. Dixon returned to broadcasting after a long career in politics. WTOC-TV (channel 11) is a television station in Savannah, Georgia, United States, affiliated with CBS and owned by Gray Television. The station's studios are located off Chatham Center Drive in Savannah's Chatham Parkway section, and its transmitter is located along Fort Argyle Road/ SR 204 in unincorporated Chatham County. History On October 15, 1929, WTOC radio signed on as the first radio station in the Savannah area. It was an enterprise of civic group Junior Board of Trade that was the forerunner of the Savannah Jaycees. It was later purchased by William Knight, Jr., who eventually added an FM station in 1946. On February 14, 1954, Knight took a great financial risk and established WTOC-TV as the first television station in the Savannah area. State Route 21 (SR 21) is an state highway that travels southeast-to-northwest through portions of Chatham, Effingham, Screven, and Jenkins counties in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway connects the Savannah and Millen areas, via Garden City, Port Wentworth, Rincon, Springfield, and Sylvania. Jimmy DeLoach Parkway
Jimmy DeLoach Parkway is a parkway in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located a few miles northwest of the main part of Savannah. The parkway has a concurrency with SR 17. It is a road that links US 80/ SR 17 Conn./ SR 26 in Bloomingdale with SR 21 Alt./ SR 21/ SR 30 in Port Wentworth. It also has an interchange with Interstate 95 (I-95). It was named after Jimmy DeLoach, former mayor of Garden City and Chatham County commissioner for District 7. Tom Triplett (March 11, 1935 – June 23, 2006) was an American politician. He served as a Democratic member for the 128th district of the Georgia House of Representatives.
