Florianópolis () is the capital and second largest city of the state of Santa Catarina, in the South region of Brazil. The city encompasses Santa Catarina Island and surrounding small islands, as well as part of the mainland. The Federal University of Santa Catarina ( pt, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, UFSC) is a public university in Florianópolis, the capital city of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. Esperidião Amin
Esperidião Amin Helou Filho (December 21, 1947) is a Brazilian politician. Born to a family of businessmen and politicians of Lebanese origin, he was twice elected governor of the state of Santa Catarina (state), Santa Catarina and twice mayor of the city of Florianópolis, its capital. He was Senator of the Republic between 1991 and 1999 and national president of the Progressist Party (Brazil), Progressive Party. In 1994 Brazilian general election, 1994, he ran for President of Brazil, but was not elected. He is married to Angela Amin, a federal congresswoman in the National Congress of Brazil and twice mayor of Florianópolis. Amin studied Business Administration and Law at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). He completed his master's degree in management and is a professor in the areas of business, economics, law and planning at UFSC. Dário Berger
Dário Berger (born December 7, 1956) is a Brazilian politician. He has represented Santa Catarina in the Federal Senate since 2015. Previously, he was mayor of Florianópolis from 2005 to 2012. He is a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party. Berger has been repeatedly accused of corruption. While mayor of São José, Santa Catarina he was fined for several financial irregularities during the construction of a highway. He also faced criticism when he awarded South Stage Events LTDA a contract to build a big Christmas tree in the center of São Jose without a fair bidding process. Despite this, he was part of a Senate committee to investigate President Dilma Rousseff’s alleged tampering of fiscal data.
