The Mayor of Cagliari is an elected politician who, along with the Cagliari's City Council, is accountable for the strategic government of Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy. The current Mayor is Paolo Truzzu, a member of the Far-right politics, far-right party Brothers of Italy, elected on 17 June 2019. Giuseppe Brotzu ( Cagliari, 24 January 1895 – Cagliari, 8 April 1976) was an Italian pharmacologist and politician. Biography Giuseppe Brotzu was born in Ghilarza, a town of the Province of Oristano, Sardinia. He graduated from the University of Cagliari, Sardinia in (1919) and later completed the specialization in Hygiene at University of Siena in 1922. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bologna in 1925. He became a professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 1932, and between 1939 and 1943 he was the director of University of Cagliari. Scientific research Brotzu is recognized as the discoverer of the cephalosporin-based antibiotics, that were first isolated from cultures of ''Cephalosporium'' (now known as ''Acremonium'') in 1948. Emilio Floris (born September 15, 1944) is an Italian politician. A trained physician, he started his political career in the mid-1990s as a member of Forza Italia. In 2001, he was elected mayor of the Sardinian capital Cagliari. Medical career Emilio Floris specialized in radiology, cardiology and occupational medicine. After graduating, he worked temporarily for public hospitals in Cagliari and Guspini. Mariano Delogu
Mariano Delogu (28 September 1933 – 27 July 2016) was an Italian politician: mayor of Cagliari from 1994 to 2001 and senator from 2001 to 2013. Biography Graduated in Law at the University of Cagliari and specialized as a lawyer, Delogu has been president of the Cagliari Calcio football club from 1976 to 1981 and has been a member of the Italian Football Federation council. In 1994, Delogu joined Gianfranco Fini's National Alliance and became the Pole of Good Government official candidate for the office of Mayor of Cagliari, and was elected. He was re-elected mayor in 1998. Delogu left his mayoral seat in 2001, once he was elected Senator for the House of Freedoms and held the seat for three consecutive legislatures till 2013.
