Perth and Kinross ( sco, Pairth an Kinross; gd, Peairt agus Ceann Rois) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland and a Lieutenancy Area. It borders onto the Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll and Bute, Clackmannanshire, Dundee, Fife, Highland and Stirling council areas. Perth is the administrative centre. Manse Of Kinfauns
The Manse of Kinfauns (also known as Kinfauns House) is an historic building located in Kinfauns, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It was built in 1791 and is now a Category C listed building, It was formerly the manse for the nearby Kinfauns Parish Church. An addition, to the east, in 1840 was the work of William Macdonald Mackenzie, Perth's City Architect, who was born in St Martins, to the north. The Church of Scotland sold the property in 1958 to a private owner who remained there for 45 years. It was sold again in 2003. Loch Kaitre formerly occupied the site beside the manse. It was still present in 1838, but in the mid-19th century, a sinkhole appeared and the manse fell in, witnessed by the minister, who had just left his home en route to the church. The loch remained for a few generations, before being drained by a tenant later in the century for agricultural use of the land beneath it. Kinfauns Castle
Kinfauns Castle is a 19th-century castle in the Scottish village of Kinfauns, Perth and Kinross. It is in the Castellated Gothic style, with a slight asymmetry typical of Scottish Georgian. It stands on a raised terrace facing south over the River Tay. The house is protected as a category A listed building, and the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland. History In reward for his services at the capture of Perth in 1313, Thomas de Longueville was granted land east of Perth by Robert the Bruce. Thomas married the heiress of Charteris of Kinfauns and changed his name to Charteris. He built a castle named Kinfauns Castle on the lands granted. His family had a long-running feud with the Ruthvens of Perth and in 1552 John Charteris was murdered by the Ruthvens on the High Street ( Royal Mile) in Edinburgh. Kinnoull Hill is a hill located partly in Perth and partly in Kinfauns, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It shares its name with the nearby Kinnoull parish. Summit In view from the -high south-facing summit is the Friarton Bridge, a stretch of the Tay Coast railway line and the Sidlaw Hills. Further to the south, Moncreiffe Hill can be seen. Kinnoull Tower On an outcrop a few hundred yards to the east of, and several feet below, the summit is Kinnoull Tower, a folly built in the eighteenth century, by Thomas Hay, 9th Earl of Kinnoull, to resemble castles along the Rhine he had admired in Germany during his Grand Tour of Europe. Kinnoull saw a similarity between the mountainous landscape along the Rhine and the rocky outcrops on his estate near Perth.
