Captain (Gaelic Games)
A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to. Ahead of the All-Ireland final, the captain is the first member of the team to shake the hand of dignitaries who may be attending the game, for example the president of the GAA or the president of Ireland. Colin Harris is a hurler from County Kerry, Ireland. He has played with the Kerry intercounty team. He played his club hurling with Kilmoyley with whom he won six County Championship medals in 2001-2004 and 2008-09. He later joined Cork club Ballincollig. 2011 Christy Ring Cup
The 2011 Christy Ring Cup was the seventh season of the Christy Ring Cup since its establishment in 2005. Teams A total of eight teams contested the Christy Ring Cup, including seven sides from the 2010 Christy Ring Cup and one promoted team from the 2010 Nicky Rackard Cup. Both Derry and Mayo failed to win any of their games in the 2010 Christy Ring Cup and qualified for the relegation play-off. No match took place and both teams preserved their status for the 2011 season. From these two teams, Mayo had the longest tenure as a Christy Ring Cup member as the team had competed in every season since the inaugural one in 2005. Ballincollig GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in the town of Ballincollig, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with the Cork GAA board and plays in the Muskerry divisional competitions. In 2009, the club will participate in the Cork Senior Football Championship and the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship. History The GAA itself was founded in 1884 and the first Cork County Board was formed in 1886 with 21 teams from across the county. Ballincollig were in this initial 21, however it was not until 1887 that the first record of entry into the Championship from a team from Carrigrohane, with a late submission. The 2009 Christy Ring Cup is the 5th annual second-tier hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Eight county teams participate in the competition. The teams are Carlow, Derry, Down, Kerry, Mayo, Kildare, Westmeath and Wicklow. John Griffin (hurler)
John Griffin (born 1983) is an Irish hurler who plays as a midfielder for the Kerry senior team. Born in Lixnaw, County Kerry, Griffin first played competitive hurling in his youth. He arrive don the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kerry minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2006 league. Griffin quickly became a regular member of the starting fifteen and has won two Christy Ring Cup medals and two National Hurling League medals in the lower divisions. He has been a Christy Ring runner-up on three occasions. At international level Griffin has played for the composite rules shinty-hurling team, winning a championship medal in 2009. At club level he is a three-time championship medallist with Lixnaw. As a Gaelic footballer Griffin is a one-time All-Ireland medallist with Finuge in the junior grade. Ballyduff G.A.A. is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Ballyduff, Co Kerry, Ireland. The club fields both Hurling and Gaelic football teams. Liam Boyle is a hurler who played with Ballyduff and Kerry. His family are involved in hurling and football in North Kerry, and he has played both football and hurling with Kerry. Club Hurling With Ballyduff Boyle won a County Senior Championship in 2006 when they beat Causeway 1-17 to 1-11 to give Ballyduff title since 1995, he added a second in 2010. He also won Minor County Championships in 1996 and 1998.
