Giacomo Fenicio
Rev. Fr. Giacomo Fenicio (1558 - 1632), also known as Arthunkal Veluthachan, Jacomo Fenicio or Jacob Fenicio was an Italians, Italian Jesuit priest, scholar, theologian, and missionary in India. He served in South India as a priest and missionary from 1584 to 1632. He was one of the first Europeans who researched and authored scholastic literature about Hinduism. He was popular known among Christians of Kerala and known as Arthunkal Veluthachan or ''fair skinned father'' of Arthunkal. Personal life Fenicio was born in Capua, Italy in 1558. He arrived in India in 1582 and spent the next 48 years in South India. He became the second vicar of St. Andrew's Basilica, Arthunkal in Kerala after the death of the first vicar, Fr Gasper Pius, who built the church. Unniyarcha (sometimes spelled "Uñnįarcha") is a legendary warrior and heroine 16th century mentioned in the ''Vadakkan Pattukal'', a set of historical ballads from northern Kerala, a state in southwestern India. The Mukkulathor people, who are also collectively known as Thevar, are a community or group of communities native to the central and southern districts of Tamil Nadu, India. They comprise the Agamudayar, Kallar and Maravar communities that share a common myth of origin and claim to have once been members of various ancient South Indian dynasties. Thacholi Othenan
Vadakkan Pattukal (literally, ''the songs of the north'') are a collection of Malayalam ballads from the medieval period. The songs present stories of heroes such as Aromal Chekavar and Thacholi Othenan, and heroines like Unniyarcha. The stories centre round the fortunes of two families, Puthooram family and Thacholi Manikkoth family. Though two families belong to two different communities Thiyyar and Nair respectively, they share in common the martial traditional. The chief among the Thiyyar chieftains of Puthooram was Aromal Chekavar, who had been killed by Chanthu in his first duel (Ankam). His sister Attumanamel Unniyarcha, is equally adept in the use of arms. The exploits of the Nair chieftain Thacholi Othenan belonging to the Thacholi family form the theme of several ballads. Keeleri Kunhikannan
Keeleri Kunjikannan (1858–1939) was an Indian martial arts trainer and gymnast. He was one of the earliest circus owners in India. Life Kunhikannan was born in Thalassery in 1858. He was the gymnastic instructor of BEMP school, Thalassery. His fascination with circus started with the visit to '' Great Indian Circus'' in 1888. He started giving Circus training at a ''Kalari'' in Pulambil so that the trainees could work with the ''Great Indian Circus''. In 1901 he started a circus school in Chirakkara, the first of its kind in Kerala and the second in India. Kerala's first circus company was ''Malabar Grand Circus'', founded at Chirakkara in 1904 by Pariyali Kannan, one of Kunhikannan's students. Kadhirur Gurukkal, also known as Mathiloor Gurukkal, was a martial artist of medieval India. He came from Kadirur, near to Thalasserry in the North Malabar region of present-day Kerala. He operated the Mathiloor Kalari, where Thacholi Othenan trained in Kalaripayattu.
