Vinod Chaubey
Vinod Kumar Choubey, KC was an Indian Police Service officer of 1998 batch who was martyred in an encounter with naxalites in the Rajnandgaon ambush in July 2009. Choubey was posthumously awarded with peacetime gallantry award 'Kirti Chakra' by Hon. President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil in March 2011 . Early life Choubey was born to Smt. Kamla Devi Choubey and Dwaraka Prasad Choubey, a senior journalist who worked for a Nagpur-based English daily before starting his own newspaper, 'Bilaspur Times'. Choubey was lecturer of chemistry at the Girls PG College in Bilaspur before joining the state police service of undivided Madhya Pradesh as a Deputy Superintendent in 1983. Kirti Chakra
The Kirti Chakra is an Indian military decoration awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice away from the field of battle. It may be awarded to civilians as well as military personnel, including posthumous awards. It is the ''peacetime equivalent'' of the Maha Vir Chakra. It is second in order of precedence of peacetime gallantry awards, comes after Ashoka Chakra and before Shaurya Chakra. Before 1967, the award was known as the ''Ashoka Chakra, Class II.'' History Established as the "Ashoka Chakra, Class II" by the President of India, 4 January 1952 (with effect from 15 August 1947). Kempaiah
Kempaiah IPS is a police officer from Karnataka, India. The high point of his career was successfully hunting down Rajiv Gandhi's assassins in Bengaluru. He led the Karnataka police team that tracked Sivarasan, prime accused in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case, to his hideout in Konanakunte outside Bengaluru. However, Sivarasan killed himself before he could be captured. Kempaiah is one of the few living people from Karnataka who has had a movie made about his life. Kempaiah IPS Kannada movie features Shashi Kumar as the hero. Kempaiah has left his indelible mark of service in Mysuru District. He turned out to be a renaissance man of the Police Department, having restored almost all the dilapidated Police Stations without sacrificing the heritage character of the buildings. Rakesh Maria
Rakesh Maria (born 19 January 1957) is a former Indian Police Officer. He last served as the Director General of Home Guard. Before that he served as the Police Commissioner of Mumbai. Early life and education Maria was born in Punjabi family to Vijay Madia (the surname got distorted to Maria) who resided in Bandra, Mumbai. His father a well-known name in film circles was founder of Kala Niketan, a banner under which he made films such as Kaajal, Preetam, Neel Kamal, among others as a top Bollywood financier and producer. Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary
Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary (born 1947) is an Indian politician who was the Governor of Meghalaya, a state in northeast India, from 2008 to 2013 (1 July 2008 to 6 July 2013). Previously he was an IPS officer, director-general of National Security Guards (NSG) and the Border Security Force (BSF). Early life and education Mooshahary hails from the Bodo community. He was born in the village Odlaguri near Gossiagaon subdivision in Kokrajhar district, now under the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts, of Assam. Sanjeev Tripathi
Sanjeev Tripathi is member of the BJP and former Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing. Tripathi is the son-in-law of Former R&AW secretary, G.S. Bajpai, and comes from a family of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. A keen sportsman, he topped the civil service exam in 1972, and joined the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Shankar Mahadev Bidari was the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) of the state of Karnataka. Vijay Salaskar
Vijay Salaskar, AC (24 February 1957 – 26 November 2008) was an Indian police inspector and encounter specialist with the Mumbai police. He was widely credited with killing 75–80 criminals in encounters – most of these were members of the Arun Gawli gang. Salaskar was killed while fighting terrorists in the November 2008 Mumbai attacks. Captured terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab claimed responsibility for the killing. Prakash Singh is a retired Indian Police Service officer, who rose to the highest rank of Director General of Police (DGP). He has served as Chief of the Border Security Force (BSF), Uttar Pradesh Police and Assam Police. He is considered one of the best police officers for his role as key architect for Police reforms in India. After his retirement from service in 1996, he filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court of India. The chief instrument through which judicial activism has flourished in India is public interest litigation (PIL) or social action litigation (SAL). ''Public interest litigation'' (PIL) refers to litigation undertaken to secure public interest and demonstrates the availability of justice to socially-disadvantaged parties and was introduced by Justice P. N. Bhagwati. It is a relaxation on the traditional rule of ''locus standi''. Before 1980s the judiciary and the Supreme Court of India entertained litigation only from parties affected directly or indirectly by the defendant. It heard and decided cases only under its original and appellate jurisdictions. However, the Supreme Court began permitting cases on the grounds of public interest litigation, which means that even people who are not directly involved in the case may bring matters of public interest to the court.
