Chef
A chef is a trained professional cook and tradesman who is proficient in all aspects of food preparation, often focusing on a particular cuisine. The word "chef" is derived from the term ''chef de cuisine'' (), the director or head of a kitchen. Chefs can receive formal training from an institution, as well as by apprenticing with an experienced chef. There are different terms that use the word ''chef'' in their titles, and deal with specific areas of food preparation. Examples include the ''sous-chef'', who acts as the second-in-command in a kitchen, and the ''chef de partie'', who handles a specific area of production. The kitchen brigade system is a hierarchy found in restaurants and hotels employing extensive staff, many of which use the word "chef" in their titles. Imitiaz Qureshi
Imtiaz Qureshi (2 February 1931 – 16 February 2024) was an Indian chef known for reviving the Dum Pukht cooking tradition and creating restaurant brands including Bukhara and Dum Pukht. He was a master chef at ITC Hotels, an Indian luxury hotel chain. Qureshi is credited with the popularization of Awadhi cuisine with some of his popular dishes including Dal Bukhara, Dum Pukht Biryani, Kakori Kebab, Warqi Paratha, and Garlic Kheer. In 2016, Qureshi received the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour, for his culinary contributions. He was the first chef to win this award in this category. Nelson Wang
Nelson Wang (born 1950) is an Indian restaurateur of Chinese descent and the founder of China Garden, a restaurant, in Mumbai's Kemps Corner neighborhood. Various sources credit him with the invention of the popular Indian/Chinese dish "Chicken Manchurian". Personal life Wang was born in Kolkata. He is the son of a Chinese immigrant. However, within a few days of his birth, his father died, and he was sent to live with a foster family by his mother. His foster father was a chef, to whom Wang attributes his own love of cooking. Early career Wang came to Mumbai in 1974, with just ₹27 in his pocket. His first job there was in a small restaurant in Colaba. Narayanan Krishnan
Narayanan Krishnan (born 1981) is an Indian chef-turned-social worker. Early life Krishnan was an award-winning chef with Taj Hotels, Bangalore and was short-listed for an elite job in Switzerland. After witnessing a distressing incident in 2002, he quit his job and began feeding the homeless and mentally disabled in his hometown. from CNN Career Krishnan founded the Akshaya Trust organization in 2003, which helps to feed the homeless and mentally-disabled in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to 425 indigent and elderly people in Madurai. He also provides haircuts and shaves to give dignity to those he serves. Grandpa Kitchen
Grandpa Kitchen is a YouTube channel established by Narayana Reddy (1946 – 27 October 2019). He was from Telangana, India. In his channel he and his grandchildren cooked large dishes of food intended for orphans, making both Indian and western dishes. Sanya Jain of NDTV described the resulting dishes as "mega-sized", and Reddy used a wood-fired flame to cook instead of a modern oven. Reddy's son operated the YouTube channel itself. Nawab Mehboob Alam Khan is an Indian food connoisseur and culinary expert of Hyderabadi cuisine. He has restored many lost recipes of the Hyderabadi tradition. Manju Malhi
Manju Malhi (born c. 1972) is a British-born chef and food writer, specialising in Anglo-Indian cuisine. She was brought up in North West London where she grew up surrounded by Indian culture, traditions and lifestyles. However, she spent several years of her childhood in India where she explored and experienced the vast and varied cuisines of the country. Malhi has come up with her own self-styled "Brit-Indi" style of food, which mixes Indian and Western influences. Maneet Chauhan (born 27 October 1976 in Ludhiana, Punjab) is an Indian American chef and television personality. Previously the Executive Chef of several notable restaurants in Chicago, Nashville, and New York, she is featured as a judge on ''Chopped'' on the Food Network. Madhur Jaffrey CBE (née Bahadur; born 13 August 1933) is an Indian-British-American actress, food and travel writer, and television personality. She is recognized for bringing Indian cuisine to the western hemisphere with her debut cookbook, ''An Invitation to Indian Cooking'' (1973), which was inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Cookbook Hall of Fame in 2006.
