By-election
A by-election, also known as a special election in the United States and the Philippines, a bye-election in Ireland, a bypoll in India, or a Zimni election (Urdu: ضمنی انتخاب, supplementary election) in Pakistan, is an election used to fill an office that has become vacant between general elections. A vacancy may arise as a result of an incumbent dying or resigning, or when the incumbent becomes ineligible to continue in office (because of a recall, election or appointment to a prohibited dual mandate, criminal conviction, or failure to maintain a minimum attendance), or when an election is invalidated by voting irregularities. In some cases a vacancy may be filled without a by-election or the office may be left vacant. Péter Kiss
Péter Kiss (11 June 1959 – 29 July 2014) was a Hungarian Socialist politician. In Bajnai's government, he was a minister without portfolio. He was one of the candidates to succeed Péter Medgyessy as prime minister in 2004 but lost to Ferenc Gyurcsány. Career In 1983 he graduated from the Technical University in Budapest, majoring in engineering. He was a member of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers and the Society of Economic Sciences. In 1989 he was a founder and first leader of the Left Youth Association. Since 1992, he was a board member of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP), and since 1994 a member of its presidium. In 1992 he became a member of the National Assembly, where worked until his death. Kiss served as president of MSZP's local branch in Vas County from 2005 to 2009. Újpest
Újpest (; german: Neu-Pest, en, New Pest) is the 4th District in Budapest, Hungary. It is located on the left bank of the Danube River. The name Újpest means "New Pest" because the city was formed on the border of the city of Pest, Hungary in 1838. Újpest was a village for 6 decades until 1907 when it became a town. In 1950, the town was unified with Budapest to form Greater Budapest. Since 1950, Újpest is the 4th District of Budapest. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Some independent politicians may be associated with a party, perhaps as former members of it, or else have views that align with it, but choose not to stand in its name, or are unable to do so because the party in question has selected another candidate. Zoltán Kész
Zoltán Kész (born 22 January 1974 in Veszprém, Hungary) is a Hungarian civil activist, former politician and English language teacher. He is a former member of Fidesz but has since became a noted independent critic against their policies. Kész is now considered a significant member of the political and civil society opposition in Hungary. In February 2015, a by-election was held in the city of Veszprém, and Kész was elected as an independent center right candidate, thus Viktor Orbán's national conservative Fidesz lost its supermajority in the National Assembly. Facing fierce electoral opposition from the majority government, he was defeated in his re-election bid in 2018. Tibor Navracsics (born Veszprém, Hungary, 13 June 1966) is a Hungarian lawyer and politician, who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade from June to September 2014. Veszprém (; german: Weißbrunn, sl, Belomost) is one of the oldest urban areas in Hungary, and a city with county rights. It lies approximately north of the Lake Balaton. It is the administrative center of the county (comitatus or 'megye') of the same name. Etymology The name of the city originates from a Slavic personal name ''Bezprem'' or ''Bezprym'' (Proto-Slavic ''Bezprěmъ'') meaning "stubborn", "self-confident, not willing to retreat". Jenő Lasztovicza
Jenő Lasztovicza (21 December 1961 – 8 January 2015) was a Hungarian horticultural engineer, politician and member of the National Assembly (MP) for Tapolca ( Veszprém County Constituency IV then III) from 1998 until his death in early 2015. He joined Fidesz in November 1994 and was the party president in his town from 1998 until his death. He secured a seat as an MP in the 1998 parliamentary elections representing Tapolca. He was the deputy chairman of the Tourism Committee in the 1998–2002 term and was also active on the Regional Development Committee.
