Horror Punk
Horror punk is a music genre that mixes punk rock and 1950s-influenced doo-wop and rockabilly sounds with morbid and violent imagery and lyrics which are often influenced by horror films and science fiction B-movies. The genre was pioneered by the Misfits in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Subsequent bands formed in the Misfits' wake like Mourning Noise, the Undead and Samhain, solidifying horror punk's first wave. In the late 1990s and early 2000s the genre gained attention through the reunion of the Misfits and success of groups like AFI, Son of Sam and the Murderdolls. This popularity continued to the modern day with Blitzkid, Calabrese and Creeper. Characteristics Horror punk is defining by its fusion of punk rock music with the imagery and lyrical topics common in the horror film genre. The Creepshow
The Creepshow is a Canadian rock band from Burlington, Ontario. The band formed in 2005 when the four original members got together with the purpose of starting a psychobilly band. The Creepshow writes the majority of their songs about horror films. Former bands Most of The Creepshow's current and past members have been in various garage bands before. McNab was the singer/guitarist for Outspan and Jersey. McGinty was the songwriter and trombonist for ska band two-face and played trombone in Outspan as well. Matt "Pomade" Gee splits his time between The Creepshow and punk band Rehab for Quitters for which he also plays drums. The Creepshow is known for their live shows as well as fast-paced songs filled with backup vocals from McNab and McGinty and sing-alongs that the whole crowd can participate in. The Groovie Ghoulies were an American pop punk band from Sacramento, California, United States, whose music took inspiration from horror movies. They released numerous albums, EPs, and singles, and toured internationally. The band's name was taken from the 1970s animated television series ''Groovie Goolies'', a spinoff of ''Sabrina, the Teenage Witch''. Grave Robber (band)
Grave Robber is an American horror punk band from Fort Wayne, Indiana. The band started rehearsing in 2005. In 2006, Grave Robber released, a vinyl EP, ''Love Hurts'' independently. Their first two studio albums, ''Be Afraid'' and ''Inner Sanctum'', were released by Retroactive Records, correspondingly in 2008 and 2009. The subsequent three studio albums, ''Exhumed, You're All Gonna Die!,'' and ''Escaping The Grave'' were released by Rottweiler Records, correspondingly in 2010, 2011, and 2018. An EP, ''Straight To Hell'' was released in 2014. Rottweiler Records has acquired the rights to ''Be Afraid'' and ''Inner Sanctum,'' with plans to re-release in 2023. Gotham Road
Gotham Road (or Gotham Rd.) is a horror punk/ heavy metal band formed after the demise of the band Graves by Michale Graves, Loki, J.V. Bastard and Paul Lifeless. History Formation The band first formed under the assumed name of Graves and recorded a demo in 2002 which was essentially composed of re-recorded Graves songs with a heavier musical element. In 2003, the group went on to change its name to Gotham Road and recorded the '' Seasons of the Witch'' EP which contained five new songs as well as two reworked Graves songs. Gotham Road went on the "Seasons of the Witch Tour" to support the EP in 2003. The following year they recorded a three-song demo and thus departed on their sixty city "Mourning Light Tour", during which the band was denied entry to Canada and had to cancel subsequent shows. Gorgeous Frankenstein was an American horror punk/ heavy metal band formed in 2005 in New Jersey by Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and his former wife and ex-professional wrestler Stephanie Bellars ( Gorgeous George). History In 2005, Doyle left New Jersey for Las Vegas and began auditioning members for his own band, Gorgeous Frankenstein. The same year, he appeared on stage with Danzig numerous times throughout their tour and lead vocalist Glenn Danzig offered to produce Gorgeous Frankenstein first eponymous album on his record Label Evilive. The name of the band is a combination of both Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and his wife Stephanie Bellars (Gorgeous George) names into a portmanteau concept. Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13
Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13 was an American horror punk band from North Carolina. The band was formed in 1996 by Wednesday 13, who recruited friends and former Maniac Spider Trash bandmates Seaweed and Sicko Zero. The band's history is riddled with a 'revolving door' lineup with 13 the only member to have never been replaced. After breaking up in 2001 when Wednesday 13 left to perform vocals with the Murderdolls, the band reformed for a brief reunion in 2005, releasing a box set containing their entire library of recordings except for the track "Look Mom I Killed A Chicken" because Wednesday 13's master copy was "destroyed beyond repair". Flesh Roxon (band)
Flesh Roxon is a Finnish horror punk band, formed in 2012 in Tampere, Finland. History The band originated when Tampere double bass player Ville Mäkinen ("Mr. Willy") met two chemical punk rock musicians: Nicky Rothen and Petri Torkell ("Peter Cordell") in 2010 in Tampere. Together they decided to form a psychobilly band and Flesh Roxon was formed in January 2012. During the first year, the band honed their live performance and played in the studio. In the summer of 2014, Flesh Roxon left Live Nation and signed a new deal with Finnish Stupido Records. The band's second long play Darker Side of Life was recorded in January 2015 at Studio Vire in Tampere with The Brains singer-guitarist Rene D La Muerte, who also co-produced the album with Flesh Roxon. Doyle is an American horror punk band formed from Gorgeous Frankenstein in 2012 by ex-Misfits lead guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and Cancerslug frontman Alex Story who also sang in Gorgeous Frankenstein. Their debut album '' Abominator'' was released in 2013 through Monsterman Records, Doyle's own label. Diemonsterdie is an American, Salt Lake City-based horror punk band, which was originally formed in 1995 as Casa Diablo. Their name is a reference to the 1965 horror movie of the same name starring Boris Karloff (which was very loosely based on the H. P. Lovecraft story "The Colour Out of Space"). The band are also known as DMD. History Initially formed in 1995 as Casa Diablo by frontman Huey "Zero Delorean" Diablo and drummer Shane "Meatwhistle" Diablo, Casa Diablo released two albums before disbanding in 2000. Later in 2000, Delorean and Meatwhistle re-emerged as Diemonsterdie. Including the years as Casa Diablo, DMD has endured 17 years as a band, and to date have released eight full-length studio records, a limited edition split 7-inch vinyl (with fellow horror punks The Crimson Ghosts of Germany) and a live album.
