Saskatchewan ( ; ) is a Provinces and territories of Canada, province in Western Canada, western Canada, bordered on the west by Alberta, on the north by the Northwest Territories, on the east by Manitoba, to the northeast by Nunavut, and on the south by the United States, U.S. states of Montana and North Dakota. The Canadian Register of Historic Places (CRHP; french: Le Répertoire canadien des lieux patrimoniaux), also known as Canada's Historic Places, is an online directory of historic sites in Canada which have been formally recognized for their heritage value by a federal, provincial, territorial or municipal authority. Background The Canadian Register of Historic Places was created as part of Canada's "Historic Places Initiative". Commencing in 2001, the Historic Places Initiative was a collaboration between the federal, provincial and territorial governments to improve protection of the country's historic sites and to "promote and foster a culture of heritage conservation in Canada". Abbey, Saskatchewan
Abbey ( 2021 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Miry Creek No. 229 and Census Division No. 8. This village is in the south-western region of the province, north-west of the city of Swift Current. Abbey is serviced by Highway 32 near Highway 738. Classified Federal Heritage Building
The Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office (FHBRO) was established in 1982 after the Government of Canada adopted an internal policy on managing heritage buildings. Today, federal heritage is incorporated into the Government of Canada's Treasury Board Policy on the Management of Federal Real Property. History The FHBRO was partly created because the federal government did not have heritage protection in place, while provincial jurisdictions had passed stronger heritage laws in the mid-1970s. Led by Parks Canada and a parliamentary committee on heritage, a policy was drafted and approved by cabinet in 1982. Cabinet allocated funds from Parks Canada's budget to manage FHBRO. A pioneering evaluation system was developed by leading heritage conservation architect, Hal Kalman. Bienfait
Bienfait is a town in Saskatchewan on Highway 18 that is 14 km (9 miles) east of Estevan. It is 30 km northwest of the town of North Portal, which is next to the Canadian-American border and is also 10 km south of Estevan. It is surrounded by the RM of Coalfields. For services, Bienfait has one school and a gas station. There is also a curling rink and an ice rink, which is where the Bienfait Coalers of the Big 6 Hockey League play. The Coalers have won the Lincoln Trophy 15 times, which is the most of any team. The Bienfait Museum is in the old CPR Station on the east end of town. CFAD Dundurn
Canadian Forces Detachment Dundurn (also CFD Dundurn) is a Canadian Forces facility located near the town of Dundurn, Saskatchewan and approximately 40 km south of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan along the east bank of Brightwater Creek. Camp Dundurn In 1858 the area that now forms Camp Dundurn was used as a camping grounds for Metis hunters. Much of the early construction work was done in the 1930s as a Unemployment Relief Camp was set up to build the base facilities. This included the construction of an airstrip and 45 permanent buildings along with roads, railway spurs and several bridges. The area was used by Canadian Army units as early as 1928 when it was organized as Dundurn Military Camp (also Camp Dundurn). During World War II the Royal Canadian Air Force constructed a bombing range on the base and the Canadian Women's Army Corps established one of its first units at Camp Dundurn. Ernst Friedrich Lindner LL. D. (1 May 1897 – 4 November 1988) was an Austrian-born Canadian painter. He moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1926, where became a self-taught commercial artist. He soon was recognized locally and then nationally and was active in several art organizations. He is known for his meticulous watercolors of natural woodlands depicting the cycle of decay and regeneration. Early years Ernst Friedrich Lindner was born on 1 May 1897 in Vienna, Austria. He was the thirteenth child of a German family. His father Karl Oswald Lindner (1844-1919) ran a business that made stylish canes and parasol handles, and employed almost 300 craftsmen. Ernst caught diphtheria as a child of seven, and drew and painted during his long convalescence. Ajawaan Lake
Ajawaan Lake is a lake in the northern boreal forest portion of Prince Albert National Park in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, from the north end of Kingsmere Lake via a wide portage trail. It is known mainly as the home of Grey Owl, famed naturalist, from 1932 to 1938. Access is via a trail from the Kingsmere River up the west side of Kingsmere Lake, or by canoe or small boat via the Kingsmere River, Kingsmere River rail push-cart portage and Kingsmere Lake. The lake has native northern pike and walleye fish, as well as resident beavers. The trail to Grey Owl's cabin is around the western edge of the lake. There are two cabins on the north shore, one at the water's edge where beavers had built a lodge partly inside and a second up the hill behind. Prince Albert National Park encompasses in central Saskatchewan, Canada and is located north of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. Waskesiu Lake, Saskatchewan
Waskesiu Lake, also referred to as Waskesiu, is a hamlet in Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan, Canada. The hamlet is the only community within the park, located on the southern shore of Waskesiu Lake, is about north of Prince Albert. Most facilities and services one would expect to find in a multi-use park are available, such as souvenir shops, small grocery stores, restaurants, hotels and motels, rental cabins, campgrounds, three marinas, many beaches, picnic areas, tennis courts, lawn bowling greens, a gas station, laundromat, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment and a small movie theatre (which adds showings on rainy and cold days).
