The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan is the top diplomatic representative of Bangladesh to Pakistan. The High Commissioner heads the Bangladeshi High Commission in Islamabad. The post was created on 3 January 1976, shortly after Pakistan and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations. Initially from 1976 to 1989, the Bangladeshi envoy held the rank of ambassador. After Pakistan rejoined the Commonwealth of Nations in 1989, of which Bangladesh was also a member, the post was changed by default to that of the High Commissioner. The 14th and present High Commissioner is Md. Ruhul Alam Siddique, who assumed responsibilities on 12 October 2020. Suhrab Hossain is a Bangladeshi diplomat. He served as the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Canada and Pakistan and ambassador to Thailand and Uzbekistan. Abul Ahsan ( bn, আবুল আহসান) (28 December 1936 – 7 December 2008) was a Bangladeshi diplomat. Education Ahsan secured first class in M.A in economics from the Dhaka University (1959) and M.A in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (1962). Quazi Golam Dastgir (23 September 1932 – 17 October 2008) was a Bangladesh army general and diplomat. Zahiruddin, born Abdullah Zahiruddin, was a Bangladeshi politician and diplomat. He was the first High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan. Career Zahiruddin was the Minister of Education and Health of Pakistan before the Independence of Bangladesh. In 1975, after the assassination of President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the 15 August 1975 Bangladeshi coup d'état, Pakistan established ties with Bangladesh.
