''Hey Arnold!'' is an American animated television series created by Craig Bartlett that aired on Nickelodeon from October 7, 1996 to June 8, 2004. The series centers on a fourth grader named Arnold Shortman, who lives with his grandparents in an inner-city boarding house. A total of 100 episodes aired over the course of five seasons. ''Hey Arnold!'' is an American animated comedy television series created by Craig Bartlett. It originally aired on Nickelodeon from October 7, 1996, to June 8, 2004. The show centers on fourth grader Arnold Shortman, who lives with his grandparents in an inner-city tenement. Episodes center on his experiences navigating urban life while dealing with the problems he and his friends encounter. Many episodes however, focus on other characters, including major, secondary, supporting, and even minor characters. Bartlett's idea for the show is based on a minor character named Arnold whom he created while working on ''Pee-wee's Playhouse''. The executives enjoyed the character, and Bartlett completed the cast and setting by drawing inspiration from people and locations he grew up with in Seattle, Washington, Portland, Oregon, and Brooklyn, New York. Jay Lender
Jay Lender (born June 14, 1969 in New Haven, Connecticut, United States) is an American television writer, storyboard artist and director. He is a former writer and storyboard director for ''SpongeBob SquarePants''. Previous to his work on ''SpongeBob'', Lender designed and drew backgrounds for Nickelodeon's ''Hey Arnold!''. He is the son of the founder of Lender's Bagels, Murray Lender. Since leaving Nickelodeon, Lender has written scripts for video games with his writing partner Micah Wright, and continues to develop animated series concepts as well as drawing the occasional SpongeBob comic strip for ''Nickelodeon Magazine''. Alan Smart is a retired animator and an animation director best known for his work as the supervising director on ''SpongeBob SquarePants'', which he has been involved with since the pilot, and as assistant director and layout artist on ''The Simpsons'' (he also received credit as a director in the season three episode, "Flaming Moe's"). Paul Sherman "Sherm" Cohen(Interview with Sherm Cohen 2006) (born January 19, 1965) is an American storyboard artist, director, and writer. During college, Cohen worked as a cartoonist for his local newspaper. He got his start in animation at Nickelodeon on ''The Ren and Stimpy Show'' as character layout artist, followed by a three-year stint on ''Hey Arnold!'' as storyboard artist and director. Dale Case (born May 15, 1938) is an American animator and film director. Life and career Case was born in Los Angeles, California in 1938. His father, Brad, was an animator who worked at Disney, MGM, Hanna-Barbera, and Warner Bros. Case graduated from the Chouinard Art Institute, and his earliest credits came in the 1960s from ''King Leonardo and His Short Subjects'' and ''The Beatles'' TV series. With Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, Povenmire co-created the Disney animated series ''Phineas and Ferb'' and ''Milo Murphy's Law'', in both of which he voiced the character Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
