Khost Province
Khost (Pashto/Dari: ) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the southeastern part of the country. Khost consists of thirteen districts and the city of Khost serves as the capital of the province. To the east, Khost Province is bordered by North Waziristan and Kurram, which are districts in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Historically, Khost used to be a part of Paktia, and the larger region surrounding Khost is still referred to as Loya Paktia. Throughout history, the province has been the site of numerous rebellions, leading to the local Pashtun populace to consider themselves the “traditional king-makers in Kabul”. The province was previously known as the Southern Province, and was united with neighbouring Paktia. Khost is also home to numerous Universities, including Shaikh Zayed University, which is the only University in Afghanistan with a faculty in computer science. Mohammad Nabi Omari
Mawlawi Mohammad Nabi Omari is a citizen of Afghanistan who was held for nearly twelve years in extrajudicial detention in the United States Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba. His Guantanamo Internment Serial Number was 832. American intelligence analysts estimate that he was born in 1968, in Khowst, Afghanistan. He arrived at the Guantanamo detention camps on October 28, 2002. He was transported from Guantanamo Bay to Qatar on June 1, 2014. Omari and four other men known as the Taliban five were exchanged for captured U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl. The men were held by the Qataris in a form of house arrest. The swap was brokered by the Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Emir of Qatar. Omari and the others were required to stay in Qatar for a year as a condition of their release. Mohmand Katawazai
The Mohmand ( ps, مومند) or Mohmand is a prominent tribe of Pashtun people. They are based primarily in the Mohmand territory, which is located in Nangarhar, Afghanistan and Mohmand Agency, Pakistan. Most people of the Mohmand tribe speak the northern dialect of Pashto. Rahman Baba and Abdul Hamid Baba are amongst the most popular Pashto poets from the Mohmand tribe. Muhammad ( ar, مُحَمَّد; 570 – 8 June 632 CE) was an Arab religious, social, and political leader and the founder of Islam. According to Islamic doctrine, he was a prophet divinely inspired to preach and confirm the monotheistic teachings of Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other prophets. Abdul Jabbar Naeemi
Abdul Jabbar Naeemi (Dari and ps, عبدالجبار نعيمي) is an Afghan diplomat and politician. He served as the governor of Laghman Province in Afghanistan, and before that was governor Khost province and Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan. At one time he served as a representative from Kandahar Province to the Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly). In 2004 he was Hamid Karzai's election agent in Pakistan, where he campaigned for Karzai and worked on educating local Afghans about the democratic process. After the presidential elections, Naeemi became the Governor of Wardak Province, which is located 30 kilometers west of Kabul. Since taking up this position he has received credit for re-establishing order in the province, a former Taliban stronghold, and for drastically reducing the cultivation of opium. Arsala Jamal (1966 – 15 October 2013) (also anglicised as Arsallah Jamal) was an Afghan government official, who served as governor of the provinces of Khost and Logar in Afghanistan.
