Avchitgad
Avchitgad ( mr, अवचितगड ) is a fort located in the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra. The fort is situated near Roha in the Raigad district. At the base of this fort is a village called Medha and Padam - Kharapti. History This fort is believed to be built by Shilahar kings and subsequently used by the Nizam of Ahmednagar. The great Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji is also believed to have reconstructed this fort. The work was carried out in a hurry and hence the name 'Avchit' (hurry) 'gad' (fort). In the Third Anglo-Maratha War, this fort was won over by Colonel Prother from the Peshwas in February 1818 along with other forts in the neighboring region. Bhaskargad
Bhaskargad fort / Basgad Fort is a fort located 48 km from Igatpuri, Nashik district, of Maharashtra. This fort is one of the fort in Trimbak hill range. This fort is near to the Harihar fort. History This fort was built during the period of Yadava of Deogiri. It was under the control of Yadavas from 1279 to 1308. It was later under the control of Bahamani Sultanate followed by Nizamshahi of Ahmednagar. In 1629 Shahaji Raje revolted against the Mohammed Adil Shah of Bijapur and the fort was captured by him. This fort was again captured by Adil Shah after the surrender of Shahaji at Mahuli Fort. The fort was under Mughals in 1633. in 1670 the chieftain of King Shivaji, Moropant Pingale, won the fort from Moghuls. In 1688 the fort was again captured by Moghuls. Bharatgad
Bharatgad Fort ( mr, भरतगड किल्ला ) is a fort located 18km from Malvan, in Sindhudurg district, of Maharashtra. This fort is located on the southern bank of Gad river or Kalaval creek. The fort is spread over an area of 4-5 acres and covered with mango orchard. History Shivaji Maharaj visited this place in 1670 but due to less availability of water on the Masure hill, he abandoned the site for building the fort. In 1680 the Wadikar Phonda Sawant decided to built the fort. The fort was completed in 1701. In 1748 Tulaji Angre, the son of Kanhoji Angre tried to captured the fort. In 1818, Captain Hutchinson captured this fort and found that the well on the fort was devoid of water. How to reach The nearest town is Malvan which is 526 km from Mumbai. Bhamer Dhule
''Bhamer'', is a village with a historical fort in Sakri tehsil of Maharashtra state in India. It is situated at the foot of a great fortified hill lying north-west from Dhule city and south of Nijampur. History In the olden days, it was a stone-built town surrounded by a parapet wall. Today it is no more than a village strewn with ruins of the old buildings. The wall surrounding it has become loose and broken down in many places. On the west is a gate flanked by two round towers, almost in ruins, with two monolithic stone pillars about high and four gate posts, one of them in its place and the others lying at some distance. The old stone palace with two entrance gates and which served as a government office during Peshwa's time is almost tottering. Bhairavgad
Bhairavgad is a fort in India, twenty miles south-west of Patan, Satara district of Maharashtra. The fort is situated on a peak of Sahyadri range. Bhagwantgad Fort ( mr, भगवंतगड किल्ला ) is a fort located 18 km from Malvan, in Sindhudurg district, of Maharashtra. This fort is located on the northern bank of Gad river or Kalaval creek. The fort is spread over an area of 1.5 acres and covered with dense vegetation. History This fort was built by Pant Pratinidhi to check the activities of Sawants of Sawantwadi. The Bavdekar had built this fort immediately after the Sawant's had built fort Bharatgad in the village Masure on the southern bank of Kalaval creek. This fort was under the control of Chhatrapati of Kolhapur. However, in few years this fort was brought under the control of sawants of Sawantwadi. Birwadi Fort
Birwadi fort (Marathi: ) is hill fortress located in the village of Birwadi in Roha taluka, Raigad district, Maharashtra, India. Birwadi village is about 3 km away from Chanera village, which is on the Roha–Salav road. The fort looks like a small hillock from a distance. Belapur Fort
Belapur Fort is a fort near the township of Belapur in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The fort was built by the Siddis of Janjira. It was later conquered by the Portuguese, and then Marathas. In the early 19th century, the fort was captured by the British. After the British gained supremacy in the region, with the expansion of the Bombay Presidency, the strategic importance of the fort declined, and it fell into disuse. Bahadurgad ( mr, बहादूरगड, "Bahadur Fort") is a fort in the Pedgaon village of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra, India. Location The fort is located about 100 km from Pune. Bankot Fort / Himmatgad Fort/ Fort Victoria is a fort located 47 km from Dapoli, in Ratnagiri district, of Maharashtra. This fort is an important fort in Ratnagiri district.
