Finland ( fi, Suomi ; sv, Finland ), officially the Republic of Finland (; ), is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It shares land borders with Sweden to the northwest, Norway to the north, and Russia to the east, with the Gulf of Bothnia to the west and the Gulf of Finland across Estonia to the south. Maunu Kurkvaara
Maunu Kurkvaara (born 18 July 1926) is a Finnish film director and screenwriter. Kurkvaara has been widely regarded as the initiator of the “new wave” of Finnish cinema in the spirit of French New Wave cinema. He directed 22 films between 1955 and 1993. Many of his films share a nautical theme due to his love of the sea. His film ''Yksityisalue'' was entered into the 13th Berlin International Film Festival. In 1965 he co-produced the film ''4x4'' and it was entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. Biography In 1947-51, he studied painting at the Finnish Academy of Arts, but already applied for the film industry in 1949, first as an organizer and assistant cameraman at Suomi-Film and then as an assistant to director Ville Salminen at a competing company, Oy Suomen Filmiteollisuus. Tarmo Manni
Tarmo Manni (30 July 1921, in Saarijärvi – 24 September 1999, in Helsinki) was a Finnish actor. He worked for the Finnish National Theatre 41 years of his 44-year career and appeared in 65 films between 1944 and 2000. Manni was known as a flamboyant persona, on and off stage. However, in his final theatre performance, he just sat in a chair for an hour, listening to Gustav Mahler's First Symphony. Armand Lohikoski
Armand Lohikoski (January 3, 1912 – March 20, 2005) was an American born Finnish movie director and writer. He is best known as a director of a number of '' Pekka ja Pätkä'' movies. Career Before his career as a film director Armand Lohikoski had a long career in the media industry. He was, among other occupations, a journalist, a division director in the Finnish Broadcasting Company (where he produced the first radio quiz in Finland), and a head of the Helsinki office of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Films. He was also the first to publish free newspapers in Finland. Armand Lohikoski directed 18 long movies for the major Finnish movie production company Suomen Filmiteollisuus. Mikko Niskanen
Mikko Johannes Niskanen (31 January 1929 – 25 November 1990) was a Finnish film director, actor, producer and screenwriter. He directed more than 40 films between 1956 and 1988. His most acclaimed films include '' The Boys'' (1962), ''Under Your Skin'' (1966) ''The Song of the Blood-Red Flower'' (1971), and '' Eight Deadly Shots'' (1972).
