Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands ( ), or simply the Faroes ( fo, Føroyar ; da, Færøerne ), are a North Atlantic island group and an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. They are located north-northwest of Scotland, and about halfway between Norway ( away) and Iceland ( away). The islands form part of the Kingdom of Denmark, along with mainland Denmark and Greenland. The islands have a total area of about with a population of 54,000 as of June 2022. The terrain is rugged, and the subpolar oceanic climate (Cfc) is windy, wet, cloudy, and cool. Temperatures for such a northerly climate are moderated by the Gulf Stream, averaging above freezing throughout the year, and hovering around in summer and 5 °C (41 °F) in winter. Jógvan Sundstein
Jógvan Sundstein (born 25 May 1933) is a Faroese politician and member of the Faroese People's Party. Jógvan is the son of Johanna Malena (born Jensen) and Hans Jacob Matras Sundstein from Tórshavn. He is married to Lydia (born Marsten) from Klaksvík. Jógvan Sundstein is a certified accountant and was a member of numerous boards of directors. In 1979 he was elected to the Løgting for the first time. He was the speaker of the Løgting from 1980 to 1984 and 1988 to 1989. He was Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands (Løgmaður) from 1989 to 1991 and was a minister from 1991 to 1993. In 2008 Sundstein published his memoirs, becoming the first Faroese politician to do so. Kristina Háfoss (born ''Danielsen''; 26 June 1975) is a Faroese economist, lawyer, politician (Tjóðveldi) and former national swimmer for the Faroe Islands. She was Minister of Finance of the Faroe Islands from 2015-2019. She was elected for the Løgting again in 2019, but took leave from 1 February 2021 when she started in her new job as the Secretary-General of the Nordic Council. Background She lived in Copenhagen the first four years of her life, because her parents lived there while her father was studying there and her mother was working there, both parents being Faroese. After that she grew up in the Faroe Islands, mostly in Argir, which today has grown together with Tórshavn. She is the daughter of John P. Anfinn Kallsberg (born 19 November 1947) is a Faroese politician, former prime minister, and the former leader of the People's Party ( fo, italic=yes, Fólkaflokkurin). The Social Democratic Party ( fo, Javnaðarflokkurin, lit=Equality Party, JF) is a social-democratic political party on the Faroe Islands, led by Aksel V. Johannesen. History The Social Democratic Party was founded on 25 September 1925 by members of Faroese trade unions. Its youth organization '' Sosialistiskt Ungmannafelag'' (Socialist Youth) was founded in 1965.
