Anita Magsaysay-Ho
Anita Magsaysay-Ho (born Anita Corpus Magsaysay; May 25, 1914 – May 5, 2012) was a Filipina painter who specialized in Social Realism and post-Cubism in regard to women in Filipino culture. Magsaysay-Ho's work appeals to Modernism by utilizing more abstract designs and styles rather than realistic approaches. Virginia Ty-Navarro
Virginia Ty-Navarro (5 July 1924 – 1996) was a Filipina sculptor, known nationwide for her sculpture "Statue of Our Lady Queen of Peace", which she completed in sixteen months on a 12 million peso budget. The sculpture is alternatively called "Our Lady of EDSA Shrine" and is located in Ortigas. Ty-Navarro was born on 5 July 1924. Ty-Navarro took a course in Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas where she studied under National Artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco and National Artist Victorio C. Edades during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. She worked on metal sculptures, such as bronze. She followed a modernist style in her art. Some of her works are displayed at the National Museum of Fine Arts. Maxine Syjuco (born December 1, 1984) is an artist, poet and model from Manila, Philippines. Nena Saguil (September 19, 1914 – February, 1994) was a Filipina artist of modernist and abstract paintings and ink drawings. She was most known for her cosmic, organic, and spiritual abstract works depicting internal landscapes of feeling and imagination. For these, Saguil is considered a pioneer of Filipino abstract art. Life and career Simplicia "Nena" Laconico Saguil was born on September 19, 1914, in Santa Cruz, Laguna, Philippines, to Epifanio Saguil and Remedios Laconico. Alice Reyes
Alice Garcia Reyes (born October 14, 1942) is a Filipina dancer, choreographer, teacher, director and producer. The founder (together with Eddie Elejar) of Ballet Philippines, she received since June 20, 2014 from the Philippine President Benigno Aquino III the highest award in the Arts, National Artist of the Philippines. She was chiefly responsible in popularizing contemporary dance with the Alice Reyes Dance Company which staged the first modern dance concert at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater in February 1970. It was this company that later became Ballet Philippines. Paz Paterno
Paz Paterno (1867–1914) was a Filipina artist. She was the first Filipino woman to paint natural sceneries. Paterno was raised in an artistic family. The composer Dolores Paterno was her half-sister. Education Peterno studied at the Academia de Dibujo y Pintura, where she was taught by artists Lorenzo Gurrero and Teodoro Buenaventura. Art Paterno made oil paintings on canvas. In 1884, she created ''Still Life''. It is a romantic artwork that shows a rich cluster of fruits that are found in the Philippine islands. ''Fruit and Basket'' (1885), which realistically depicts butterflies and flies hovering over fruits, is displayed at the Central Bank of the Philippines. Marge Organo is a Filipina glass artist. She was born and raised in Ilocos Sur. Life Organo's interest in art started at a young age, however, she never fully dedicated herself to it. After graduating from college, she managed her family's pharmaceutical business. She went to a semi-retirement home in 2014 and decided to take art classes from painter Fernando Sena. Organo explored various forms of art — such as abstract painting, tile mosaic, furniture upholstery, interior and exterior design and construction — until she came to the conclusion that she wants to pursue a field where women are sparse: sculpture.
