Danes ( da, danskere, ) are a North Germanic ethnic group and nationality native to Denmark and a modern nation identified with the country of Denmark. This connection may be ancestral, legal, historical, or cultural. Danes generally regard themselves as a nationality and reserve the word "ethnic" for the description of recent immigrants, sometimes referred to as "new Danes". Olaf Fønss
Olaf Holger Axel Fønss (17 October 1882 – 11 March 1949) was a Danish actor, director, producer, film censor and one of Denmark and Germany's biggest stars of the silent film era. Career Fønss' leading role in the 1913 Danish classic ''Atlantis'' made his face recognizable to movie fans. It was his role as the mad-scientist in the 1916 German science fiction film series, ''Homunculus'', that earned Fønss status as a top matinee idol. In the 1930s, Fønss became politically active by directing two films for Denmark's Socialdemokratiske Parti (Social Democracy Party), ''Den Store Dag'' (1930) and ''Under Den Gamle Fane'' (1932). Inge Hvid-Møller
Inge Hvid-Møller (1912–1970) was a Danish actress and stage director. She is remembered for performing roles in Jean Anouilh's plays, in particular the title role in ''Antigone'' in 1946. From the 1950s she directed plays including Chekhov's '' Onkel Vanja'' (1953) at the Allé-Scenen. Hvid-Møller also performed in several films, including ''Jeg mødte en Morder'' (1943). Biography Born in Copenhagen on 6 October 1912, Inge Hvid-Møller was the daughter of the high-court attorney Johannes Hvid-Møller (1885–1959) and his wife Elna Johanne Henriette Bentzen (1884–1950). In 1941, she married the actor Hans-Henrik Krause. The marriage was dissolved in 1946. Gudrun Houlberg
Gudrun Houlberg (21 February 1889 – 14 January 1940) was a Danish actress who appeared in over 40 films from 1910 to 1934. She is remembered in particular for her roles in ''Klovnen'' (1917) and ''Grevindens ære'' (1919). Biography Born on 21 February 1889 in Viborg, Gudrun Houlberg was the daughter of the merchant Anton Nielsen Houlberg (1863–1949) and his wife Sørine Pouline Frederikke Prahl (1867–1955). Astrid Holm
Astrid Holm (born Astrid Vilhelmine Rasmussen; 29 March 1893 – 29 October 1961) was a Danish theater and film actress whose career began on the stage and in the early silent film era. Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award
The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award is awarded periodically by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the Governors Awards ceremonies for an individual's "outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes". Prior to 2009 and in 2021, this award was presented during the main Oscars ceremony. The award category was instituted in 1956 and first awarded at the 29th Academy Awards, in March 1957. Unlike the Academy Award of Merit, the awards are restricted with the nomination and voting limited to industry professionals for this that are members of the Board of Governors of AMPAS. Jean Pierre Carl Buron (12 July 1886 – 2 June 1956), known professionally as Jean Hersholt, was a Danish-American actor. He is best known for starring on the radio series '' Dr. Christian'' (1937–1954) and in the film ''Heidi'' (1937).Obituary ''Variety'', 6 June 1956, p. 63. Betty Mathilde Hennings née Schnell (1850–1939) was a Danish actress who entered the Royal Danish Theatre as a ballet dancer but in 1870 turned to acting, first performing in Molière's ''The School for Wives''.
